Celtic developments dubbed unbelievable ahead of Rangers showdown – ‘It’s insane…’

Danny Rohl is set for his first taste of the Old Firm derby.

Rangers take on Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday, with a final against St Mirren on the line.

Somehow, Martin O’Neill will be in charge of Celtic in what has been another wild week in Glasgow.

Rohl has consecutive victories over Kilmarnock and Hibernian under his belt before his biggest game so far, with Rangers fans expecting another victory on the biggest stage.

Celtic in ruin ahead of Rangers showdown

O’Neill will be opposite Rohl after the wild resignation of Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead, which appeared to come out of nowhere.

Gary Keown has been left shocked by the developments at each side of Glasgow ahead of kick-off at Hampden Park, with changes galore.

Writing in the print edition of the Scottish Mail on Sunday on 2 November, the columnist admitted that it was wild to see O’Neill going up against Rohl.

“Let’s be clear on one thing,” he wrote. “It’s more than just surreal, as the man himself puts it, to see 73-year-old Martin O’Neill, six years or so out of management and all about his radio and his book tours, back in the Celtic dugout.

“It’s insane, really.

Keown went on to couple it with the changes at Rangers, saying: “However, these early days of O’Neill’s return – coupled with this embryonic stage of Danny Rohl’s reign across Glasgow, do have the potential to signal a vital reset on both sides of the divide.”

Russell Martin really threw away perfect Rangers chance

Despite Celtic being in turmoil, they are still ahead of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Russell Martin, Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart wasted it all at Ibrox, as they had been handed the Scottish Premiership on a plate if they were winning games.

Instead, it is Hearts who are nine points clear in November.

Having said that, the Jambos are not in contention for the Premier Sports Cup, failed in Europe again, and many still expect them to fall away in the league, too.

Should Rangers win the Premier Sports Cup and brush aside Celtic and Hearts in four more games in the league, Rohl would have hero status already.

That is definitely easier said than done, though, and all eyes have to be on Hampden Park first.
