Danny Rohl has immediate Rangers dilemma as Nicolas Raskin’s transfer intentions shared

Danny Rohl faces a serious dilemma regarding Nicolas Raskin’s future at Rangers.

The German is quickly gathering support in Govan after back-to-back victories have seen his team climb to third in the Premiership table, but his biggest assignment so far may be about to come away from the pitch.

Raskin is a hugely important player for Rangers, and they did well to keep hold of him during the summer transfer window, as interest arose from several clubs across Europe.

The Belgian has played every single minute under Rohl since he stepped into the dugout, and that only heightens the importance of the decision facing the boss.

Nicolas Raskin wants move to Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues

Tottenham are the latest club to track Raskin, after the likes of Aston Villa and West Ham were previously linked with an eye-catching swoop in the summer.

The 24-year-old has an ever-growing reputation on both the club and international stages, and that is seeing him attract consistent interest from across Europe.

Besiktas have also been linked with a move for him in January, but it is currently understood that a move to the Super Lig is “unlikely,” according to Turkish outlet Fotospor.

They state that the midfielder isn’t keen on the idea of joining Besiktas due to their standing within the European game, and add that his “primary goal” is to play in one of the continent’s ‘top five’ leagues.

It is also believed that there are ‘many teams’ pursuing the Gers star ahead of the January window, which will not bode well for them at all in terms of trying to keep hold of their key man.

Raskin’s intentions to test himself at the highest possible level are admirable, but that certainly points towards a likely move away from Ibrox in the near future.

Rangers may succumb to Nicolas Raskin sale in January

Raskin fell out with Russell Martin at Rangers during the early stages of the season, and Rohl will be under no illusions that he is a player whom he must keep on his side in the coming months.

The midfielder is arguably one of the best players in the Premiership, and is undoubtedly the jewel in the Gers’ crown at the moment.

The new boss will be desperate to try and get the best out of a player of his quality, but he will need to fight against the club’s logical and business-centred goals this winter.

Raskin is under contract until the summer of 2027, meaning that if Rangers are to get the kind of fee that they deserve for such a talented player, then a sale has to come either in January or next summer.

That’s where Rohl has walked into a major dilemma since taking the job; he needs Raskin to start every game for him if possible, but the club simply cannot afford to lose a player like that for nothing at the end of his deal.

With that in mind, it could be a pivotal few weeks as Rohl must decide whether he can afford to live without Raskin and invest the money elsewhere in the squad.
