‘This is why Bojan Miovski has been terrible for Rangers after summer transfer’

Rangers failed to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window as Bojan Miovski continues to struggle.

The Gers paid £2.6million, excluding add-ons, for the North Macedonia international’s move from Girona, but it hasn’t worked out for him so far.

Miovski has failed to be a reliable goalscorer at Ibrox in the opening few games of his stint at the Light Blues, raising doubts about his quality.

Danny Rohl has got a tune out of Youssef Chermiti since taking over from Russell Martin, leaving the former Aberdeen forward at risk of losing his place in the starting lineup.

Rangers style of play doesn’t suit Bojan Miovski

Gordon Dalziel feels it’s “quite simple” to figure out why Miovski has been “terrible” for the Gers.

The Scotsman feels the 26-year-old forward’s strengths lie in running behind defences, which isn’t something that the Light Blues do.

Dalziel feels the North Macedonian striker was capable of showing the full extent of his talent at Aberdeen, but he hasn’t been able to do that at Ibrox.

Speaking on Open Goal on 30 October, the Glaswegian outfit’s former player said: “Miovski is terrible. But I think the problem with Miovski is quite simple for me. Everyone says, ‘Oh, look at him at Aberdeen, he was brilliant,’ but he was a runner in behind a lot of times.”

Dalziel added: “And that was his strength, and he was brilliant at it, and he put centre-halves under pressure. Rangers don’t play that way. He’s not a link-up player.”

Danilo’s resurgence under Rohl has been encouraging, leaving Miovski with even more competition at the Gers.

Danny Rohl has number nine dilemma vs Celtic

Chermiti could potentially be dropped to the bench against Celtic, but that may not automatically lead to Miovski’s inclusion in the starting lineup.

Rohl has shown he’s flexible at Rangers and is willing to give every player a chance to prove themselves, with certain players already taking their chances.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see a frontline of Djeidi Gassama, Danilo and Mikey Moore if the German manager reverts to a back four.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss seems to be mirroring the formations of his opponents in recent matches, and a return to a 4-2-3-1 system may be on the cards at Hampden Park on 2 November in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
