Danny Rohl has already unlocked ‘amazing’ Rangers star with simple tactical tweak

Danny Rohl appears to have transformed this Rangers star over the last two games.

The Gers are heading into Sunday’s Old Firm clash in the Premier Sports Cup on the back of two consecutive wins in Premiership action.

Danilo netted the winner for Rangers away at Hibernian on Wednesday, as that 1-0 victory followed a commanding 3-1 win over Kilmarnock on home turf last weekend.

There have been noticeable changes all across the pitch throughout those two clashes, but one star in particular looks like a new player under the German’s guidance.

Central freedom has unlocked Mikey Moore at Rangers

Mikey Moore has largely struggled for Rangers since his season-long loan move from Tottenham was confirmed in the summer.

The 18-year-old is one of the North London outfit’s most prestigious young stars, but there were already suggestions that his time in Govan should be brought to a premature close in January after a string of poor performances.

However, any talk of his loan deal being cancelled has been firmly shelved since Rohl arrived, and the 36-year-old was able to draw out what was arguably Moore’s most positive display in a Gers shirt so far on Wednesday.

The youngster played off Youssef Chermiti from the start at Easter Road, and while he often began moves as the left winger in a 3-4-3 system, he regularly popped up in central areas of the pitch, something which rarely happened under Russell Martin.

The Englishman had a much greater influence on his team as the game unfolded, as Rohl had given him the freedom to drift inside from the flank and use his excellent range of passing.

It was only a minor tweak from the role that Moore had been playing in under his predecessor, but Rohl already appears to have unlocked the Spurs starlet more than Martin was ever able to.

‘Amazing’ Mikey Moore has to start vs Celtic this weekend

Former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe played a big part in Moore’s move to Ibrox in the summer, and his admiration of the youngster is clear to see after he branded him an “amazing young talent,” according to The Scotsman.

The England U19 international is finally showing signs of living up to that premonition during his spell north of the border, and long may it continue from a Gers point of view.

Moore has clearly been struggling for confidence in the early stages of the campaign, and after such a positive display in the midweek victory, he is surely destined to start Sunday’s cup semi-final.

It feels as though he may be on the cusp of a big moment after showing flashes of promise recently, and Rohl will surely be keen to unleash him and his newfound freedom during the Old Firm clash.
