Youssef Chermiti axed as Danny Rohl makes three major changes – Rangers predicted XI vs Celtic

Danny Rohl will already have his team selection in mind for his first Old Firm derby as Rangers boss on Sunday.

The German’s appointment received a mixed reaction at Ibrox when it was announced, but he has quickly begun to change opinions in Govan after some positive results this week.

Danilo scored a beauty for Rangers to hand them all three points away at Hibernian on Wednesday night, and they are now heading into this weekend’s clash on the back of two straight victories.

Rohl will face a baptism of fire when he takes his Gers team across the city for the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup, and he faces some major selection decisions ahead of the game.

Djeidi Gassama to be recalled to Rangers starting XI vs Celtic

Djeidi Gassama was excellent for Rangers at the start of the season, as he quickly built a reputation for himself as the man for the big moment.

The Frenchman scored crucial goals throughout his side’s ill-fated Champions League qualifying campaign, but he has been unable to translate that into domestic success so far.

Rohl started the former Sheffield Wednesday star from the bench in midweek, but his introduction at half-time was perhaps an indication of his involvement this weekend, as the boss hopes for another magic moment from the 22-year-old.

Youssef Chermiti notched an assist on Wednesday and won an encouraging eight duels throughout the game, but he may be set to make way to allow Danilo to play through the middle, and Gassama to come in on the right.

Elsewhere in the side, James Tavernier’s experience will be invaluable in a game of this magnitude, and his likely recall to the team will surely see Max Aarons drop to the bench.

Connor Barron struggled in the midfield at times against Hibernian, as he won just 42 per cent of his duels, but his energy could make him perfect for the back-and-forth nature of an Old Firm clash.

Mikey Moore may hold the key to Old Firm success

It has been suggested that Rangers should send Mikey Moore back to Tottenham in the past, but he has shown plenty more promise since Rohl stepped into the dugout.

The young winger turned in one of his best performances of the season in midweek, as he completed both of his attempted dribbles and played three passes into the final third.

The 18-year-old has shown huge signs of improvement under Rohl’s guidance, and it is clear that he needs a manager who is capable of filling him with confidence ahead of every game.

It feels as though Moore is waiting for a big moment to truly announce himself as a Rangers player, and Sunday’s game would be the perfect time for him to step up and make a name for himself.
