Rangers figure clearly to blame as Neil Warnock hits out at Ibrox ‘disgrace’
Rangers have had a disastrous start to the 2025-26 season.
Russell Martin was sacked by Rangers after 123 days in charge, leaving with statistically the worst record of any manager in Ibrox history.
Danny Rohl has been appointed as the new manager, and whilst supporters are optimistic about the future, it doesn’t take anything away from how badly the 49ers have failed so far.
With Rangers fifth in the Scottish Premiership and bottom of the Europa League table, Neil Warnock is amongst those who believe that this season has been a mess from top to bottom.

Kevin Thelwell must be held accountable for his failure at Rangers
Kevin Thelwell’s spell as sporting director at Rangers has begun in appalling fashion.
With the majority of the summer signings failing to impress, the atmosphere at Ibrox has become toxic towards both Thelwell and Patrick Stewart.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 28 October, Warnock did not hold back on some of the players Rangers had bought.
He said: “Rangers’ recruitment has been a disgrace. Some of those players would get in my Torquay side.”
| Youssef Chermiti | £10m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £3.5m |
| Oliver Antman | £3m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m – could rise to £4.2m |
Thelwell gambled £10million on Youssef Chermiti despite the Portuguese striker not scoring a goal in senior football for over two years.
Oscar Cortes was sent out on loan to Sporting Gijon despite being bought for £4.5m, while Emmanuel Fernandez was left out of match-day squads by Martin despite his £3.5m price tag.
Whilst the deal to sign Cortes was agreed in June 2024, the decision to loan him out lies with Thelwell.
The recruitment strategy has been a disaster, and only Djeidi Gassama and Jayden Meghoma have proven themselves to be smart acquisitions.
Rangers supporters have confronted Thelwell on multiple occasions this season, and Andrew Cavenagh must assess his future in Govan.
Rangers fans are right to want Kevin Thelwell gone
Not only has Thelwell made a number of serious mistakes, but he seems to be getting off scot-free.
Thelwell oversaw the worst transfer window in recent history, yet he wasn’t disciplined, and then he proceeded to hire his son as the new head of recruitment.
Having also appointed Jim Liggett and Nathan Fisher, it’s disheartening to see Thelwell doubling down on making decisions when he has no merit to do so.
Whether Rangers can turn their season around is yet to be known; however, there is absolutely no reason for Thelwell to be praised if they do so.
If results don’t improve, Cavenagh must do the right thing and relieve Thelwell of his duties as soon as possible.
