Jayden Meghoma set for starring role for Rangers vs Hibernian as Danny Rohl plan becomes clear

Rangers face Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday.

Rangers defeated Kilmarnock 3-1 on Sunday, with Danny Rohl securing his first win in charge of the Light Blues at Ibrox.

Rangers will take on Hibs at Easter Road, and they’ll be hoping to close the 13-point gap on league leaders Hearts.

Jayden Meghoma has been a mainstay in the team, and his importance in the starting lineup will be evident against Hibs.

Jayden Meghoma has impressed since arriving at Rangers

Meghoma’s move to Rangers was initially scrutinised, yet he has turned out to be one of the more impressive summer signings.

Having joined on a season-long loan deal from Brentford, the 19-year-old has provided two assists in 12 games this season.

In Rangers’ win on Saturday, Meghoma delivered a pinpoint cross for Danilo, who confidently headed home to make it 2-1 at the time.

Hibs currently sit third in the table, yet they’ve conceded eleven goals in their opening nine matches.

Rohl used Danilo and Bojan Miovski up front against Kilmarnock, and it’s clear to see that he values their physical presence.

What bodes well for Meghoma is that his deliveries into the box have been excellent all season, and alongside James Tavernier, he can become a huge attacking asset under Rohl.

Easter Road is always a tough place to visit; however, Meghoma’s threat in the final third will bode well for the style that Rohl will look to implement on Wednesday night, with the German’s tactical plan already becoming clear.

A lot has been made of Rangers’ transfer window, with Kevin Thelwell coming under pressure for the extortionate amount of money he spent.

Rangers must sign another left-back in January

One of the most glaring mistakes made in the transfer window was the handling of the left-back position.

Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte were allowed to leave Govan, with only Meghoma coming in to replace them.

It was thought that Max Aarons could play on the left side of defence under Russell Martin, yet the experiment quickly proved itself to be a disaster.

While fellow summer signing Derek Cornelius can deputise there, it remains clear that no one can replace Meghoma’s athleticism and quality on the ball in that position.

As Rangers look to turn their fortunes around under Rohl, depth must be added at left-back if they want to compete on multiple fronts this season.
