Kris Boyd predicts Celtic vs Rangers as Brendan Rodgers resigns, guesses scoreline

Rangers face Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday before their Premier Sports Cup semi-final clash against Celtic on Sunday.

Danny Rohl will look to build a winning run at Easter Road on 29 October after beating Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership at Ibrox.

Then Hampden Park will host the Old Firm derby on 2 November, with both clubs currently going through their own struggles.

Brendan Rodgers tendered his resignation at the Hoops after they lost 3-1 to Hearts in the league, with Martin O’Neill returning to the Parkhead dugout on an interim basis.

Rangers backed to beat Celtic at Hampden Park

Kris Boyd has predicted a narrow 1-0 win for the Gers against Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

Speaking on Go Ballistic on 27 October before the news of Rodgers’ departure broke, the Scotsman claimed the Light Blues and Motherwell would make the final.

The Hoops have been going through a rough patch in recent months, and Hearts opened an eight-point gap at the top of the league table with their win at Tynecastle Park on 26 October.

Rodgers has had two successful stints at Parkhead, but left midway through the season on both occasions, being appointed Leicester City manager the first time around.

It’s surprising to see both Parkhead and Ibrox facing a crisis simultaneously, leaving Derek McInnes to potentially reap the rewards this season.

The Premier Sports Cup semi-final may be make-or-break for both Glaswegian outfits, and Rohl will now undoubtedly feel confident, as the situation in G31 has exploded.

Celtic crisis reflected in Old Firm derby record

Rodgers’ resignation at Celtic came as a surprise to many, and Dermot Desmond’s subsequent statement criticising the Northern Irish manager was even more mindboggling.

Rangers will feel they’re going into the Old Firm derby with momentum on their side as the situation at Parkhead feels volatile.

There has seemingly been a sense of frustration at the Hoops since last season, with the Gers unbeaten in their last four meetings.

In 2025, the Light Blues have beaten Celtic twice, and their latest meeting this season ended in a relatively uneventful 0-0 draw, which will give the Ibrox faithful some hope going into the semi-final.
