Danny Rohl to transform Rangers defence after latest Dujon Sterling footage from Auchenhowie

Danny Rohl has shown he’s flexible with his formations as Rangers beat Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday.

Stuart Kettlewell’s team travelled to Ibrox on 26 October, with the German manager winning his first game as the Gers beat Killie 3-1.

Rohl’s team will travel to Easter Road on 29 October, and it remains to be seen whether the former Sheffield Wednesday boss will persist with the back-three of James Tavernier, John Souttar and Derek Cornelius.

With the Glaswegian outfit showing signs of improvement with a change in system, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them stick with it, and they may soon have another solid option for their backline.

Dujon Sterling looks ready in new Rangers training footage

Dujon Sterling was a big part of the Gers’ new training footage from Auchenhowie, suggesting he could potentially be back in action soon after his long-term injury, which has kept him out since April.

The Englishman can be seen taking part in various drills with the first-team players, and in the end, the defender can be seen going through a slap tunnel of his teammates.

With the right-back’s versatility coming in handy last season as Phillipe Clement struggled with defensive injuries, he may well become an important player for Rohl.

The 25-year-old could potentially play as the right-centre-back, with James Tavernier moving into the right-wing position.

Djeidi Gassama had a tough time against Kilmarnock and was subsequently replaced by Max Aarons at around the hour mark, which led to improvements from the Light Blues.

With a defensive line of Sterling, Souttar and Cornelius, Tavernier could be given the reins to attack more while maintaining defensive stability.

Clinton Nsiala redemption set at Ibrox

Clinton Nsiala was left out to dry by Russell Martin, with the centre-back not in his plans at the Glaswegian outfit.

Since Rohl’s appointment at Rangers, the French defender has been a regular part of the first-team training sessions and could potentially be an option in the backline.

Nsiala and Sterling’s record at the Gers last season

With the former AC Milan youngster one of the few left-footed defenders at the Gers, he may yet have a role to play for them this season if Jayden Meghoma or Cornelius get injured at Ibrox.

Sterling and Nsiala provide the German manager with more options in defence, and he should utilise them in the coming months.
