Why Danilo’s Rangers career is set for revival under Danny Rohl after performance vs Kilmarnock

Rangers secured a long-awaited Scottish Premiership win at Ibrox by defeating Kilmarnock 3-1 on Sunday.

Goals from Derek Cornelius, Danilo, and Youssef Chermiti have lifted the Bears into fifth place, yet they still trail league leaders Hearts by 13 points.

The first win of the Danny Rohl era was a convincing one, with many players registering their best performances of the season.

As for Danilo, his goalscoring return to the side has surely given the German manager a headache about who must start up front.

Danilo makes huge case to start under Dany Rohl

Danilo was on the periphery of Russell Martin’s plans, with his last Rangers start coming in the 6-0 loss to Club Brugge on 27 August.

However, Rohl entrusted Danilo to start alongside Bojan Miovski against Kilmarnock, and he scored a brilliant goal on his return to action.

With the scores level at 1-1, Jayden Meghoma’s cross found Danilo, who planted a header in off the post past goalkeeper Eddie Beach.

Martin’s sacking was the best-case scenario for Danilo’s future at the club, and under Rohl, he can prove to be a valuable player for the rest of the season.

Under Martin, Miovski would start the majority of league matches, whilst Youssef Chermiti was entrusted with leading the line for the Light Blues in the Europa League.

However, it was Miovski, not Danilo, who was substituted at half-time against Kilmarnock, and Rohl’s faith in the 26-year-old clearly paid off.

Danilo spoke after the match about how he felt hurt by Martin, who had completely lost faith in him.

After Rangers’ 3-0 loss to Brann on Thursday, it was clear Rohl had to deviate from the similar 4-2-3-1 formation that was used under Martin.

Danny Rohl’s tactical adaptability bodes well for all three Rangers strikers

Rohl started with two traditional strikers, something that hadn’t been considered by Martin.

The move clearly worked, with crosses into Danilo and Miovski causing problems for the struggling Kilmarnock defence.

If Rohl persists with using two strikers, not only could Danilo get more minutes under his belt, but it would ensure all of the strikers would be able to equally fight their case.

What’s even more optimistic for Gers fans is that they have already seen their side play different styles of football despite Rohl only taking charge for two matches.

This could be a huge asset throughout the season, with unpredictability being something the 36-year-old will want to implement as Rangers compete in four different competitions this season.

Danilo has never gotten a consistent run of starts since joining from Feyenoord in July 2023, yet this could all change for the Brazilian striker as Rohl’s era looks to build momentum.
