‘Scottish FA need to change laws after new images from Rangers controversy’

Willie Collum will never escape scrutiny while at the top of the Scottish FA, with Rangers and Celtic always having a bone to pick.

Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-1 on Sunday, with Danny Rohl getting his first win at Ibrox after replacing Russell Martin last week.

Youssef Chermiti finally scored his first goal for the Bears, following headers by Derek Cornelius and Danilo to seal all three points.

It could have been four, but a late Nicolas Raskin effort was disallowed for offside by VAR.

Willie Collum urged to make Scottish FA change after Rangers drama

Raskin was deemed to be inches ahead of the last defender as Mikey Moore played him through, but new images online show the dreadful angle and application of VAR.

Keith Hackett admitted that the technology used by the Scottish FA has flaws after seeing the image, saying that the law should change to benefit attackers in tight situations.

The ex-FIFA-listed official insists that a semi-automated offside system should be introduced, with the best technology needed to deliver consistent results.

“The match officials in Scotland have to work with and rely on the technology that is in operation,” Hackett said. “Anyone who loves football does not like to see goals chalked off for such tight margins.

Frankly, the technology in operation does have, in my opinion, flaws in its accuracy. Camera speeds, the lack of any sensor in the ball, and the discrepancy in the point at which the ball is touched or played.

I would like to see a change in the law where the benefit in these marginal decisions is given to the forward, not the defenders.

I would like to see the Scottish FA introduce the FIFA semi-offside system. The Match officials, on the information provided to them, called this one offside.

“Given the information, the system produces this as the correct decision given the technology they are using.

“It is evident that Willie Collum is delivering leadership and direction. The Scottish FA must ensure that its officials have the very best technology available to deliver a greater level of accuracy.

Rangers still need more in Scottish Premiership

Rangers winning as Celtic lose usually constitutes a brilliant weekend for those in blue, but things have massively changed this season.

Hearts are now sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with the Bears fifth and 13 points behind after only playing nine games.

There is still plenty of time for Rohl to turn it around, but it would be a miracle at this stage to finish top.

The win over Kilmarnock was a great starting point, but Rangers will need to beat Hearts and Celtic twice to have any chance of lifting the title next year.
