Scott Allan blames another Rangers star despite Jack Butland howler vs Kilmarnock as footage emerges

Danny Rohl earned his first domestic Rangers win in charge at Ibrox on Sunday.

Rangers triumphed over Kilmarnock at home to win all three points on 26 October, sealing a 3-1 victory.

The Gers played with a level of tactical freedom fans were hoping would come to light when Rohl replaced Russell Martin at Ibrox.

Despite the emphatic win, Rangers still have several mistakes to learn from moving forward.

Scott Allan calls out Danilo after new Rangers footage

Despite netting the second for the Gers, Danilo has been singled out for his role in George Stanger’s goal for Kilmarnock.

During the sequence, Jack Butland rushed off his line in an attempt to defend a corner. However, the ball somehow eclipsed his attempted punch, bouncing in front of Stanger to score on the other side.

It was a howler from Butland, but Scott Allan, speaking via BBC Sportscene on 26 October, did not place all the blame on the keeper when analysing the footage.

He said: “No, you don’t, and up until this point, Rangers were really comfortable, you’re looking to see whether they’d push for a second.

“Set pieces have been an Achilles heel for Rangers. They haven’t been defending them well enough. Yes, Butland’s got to do better, but if you’re not going to come and take it, you expect your teammates to get you out of trouble.

“Danilo switches off, he’s got to do better for me.”

The goalscorer was positioned near the back-post on the right-hand side, but made no effort to track his man or swat the ball away.

How did Jack Butland perform outside of the goal conceded?

While Thelo Aasgaard was praised for his performance at Ibrox, Butland was pretty solid outside of the goal, according to Sofascore.

His lack of involvement reflects the strong attacking performance the Gers had against their opponents, with his excellent save from Bruce Anderson the clear highlight.

Rohl was praised for his bravery at Ibrox, where his side took 12 shots and created two big chances with 74 per cent ball possession.

The display marks a huge turnaround from some of the uninspiring performances seen under Martin before he departed the club, but more is still needed.

As a result, Rangers fans reserve the right to be cautiously optimistic when it comes to the future of Rohl’s tenure at Ibrox.
