Rangers star surely first name on the team sheet for Danny Rohl after impressive stat vs Kilmarnock

Danny Rohl was handed plenty of encouragement by his Rangers team in their 3-1 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Gers finally recorded their first home win of the Premiership campaign, in what was a much-needed three points at Ibrox.

Rohl is already building a relationship with the Rangers fans, despite the fact that many were initially sceptical about his lack of top-level managerial experience when he was first appointed.

The difficult games are coming thick and fast for the Govan outfit, with clashes against Hibernian and Celtic coming up this week, and one particular star has surely already sealed his place in the team.

Derek Cornelius showed what Rangers have been missing

Derek Cornelius’ arrival at Rangers has gone under the radar somewhat since his season-long loan move was confirmed on deadline day.

However, that certainly won’t be the case moving forward if the defender can continue to perform in a similar manner to his display against Kilmarnock this weekend.

The centre-back has played every single minute of the Gers’ last three Premiership outings, but his performance this time around was undoubtedly his best yet.

He got on the end of James Tavernier’s free-kick to put his team ahead with an excellent header in the 15th minute, but it was his actions at the other end of the pitch that will have caught Rohl’s attention.

Cornelius’ stats vs Kilmarnock, as per Sofascore.

Cornelius won an impressive eight duels throughout the 90 minutes, a total which was higher than anybody else on the pitch, with five of those coming in the air.

That commanding presence at the centre of their backline is what Rangers were missing so desperately in the early stages of the season, when the error-prone Nasser Djiga wreaked havoc against his own team.

Cornelius is the perfect contrast to the Wolves loanee, and his composed but resolute style of defending will be invaluable for the rest of the season.

The Canada international will be undroppable if he can make that level of performance a regular occurrence, and he is surely already one of the first names on the team sheet for the new boss.

Danny Rohl appears to have fringe players on his side

Mohamed Diomande was excellent for Rangers in the middle of the park on Sunday, despite the fact that it was his first start since the middle of September.

The 23-year-old has been out in the cold of late, but it is a hugely positive sign that Rohl was immediately able to get such a promising display for him upon his recall to the starting XI.

The same can be said of Danilo, who looked a threat all afternoon, despite having previously gone without a start since the end of August.

Ultimately, it is a squad game at Rangers, and Rohl will need every one of his players to contribute effectively if he and his team are to salvage anything from the campaign.

Russell Martin seemingly alienated several members of the group at Ibrox, but Rohl appears to be doing the exact opposite during the early stages of his reign.
