James Tavernier to sit down with Youssef Chermiti after ‘strange’ Rangers moment vs Kilmarnock

Youssef Chermiti finally scored his first goal for Rangers against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Stuart Kettlewell’s side travelled to Ibrox on 26 October, and the 21-year-old opened his account for the Gers in the 3-1 victory.

Chermiti’s former Everton teammates liked his Instagram post after the game, with the Portugal Under-21 international going through a rough spell in recent years.

The centre-forward’s development at Goodison Park stalled due to injuries, and while he’s finally broken his duck, the striker risks alienating the Glaswegian outfit’s supporters.

Youssef Chermiti goal celebration in Rangers vs Kilmarnock disrespectful

It was strange to see Chermiti do the talking gesture with his hands after scoring against Kilmarnock, Ross McCormack says.

The ex-Gers forward believes James Tavernier may want to have a conversation with the Portuguese ace after his “disrespectful” celebration at Ibrox.

In the summer, the Light Blues signed the young striker for £8million, and supporters have every right to have high expectations of him.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 26 October, McCormack said: “Straight after that game, you’ll probably get guys like Tavernier right away, sitting him down and going, ‘Don’t you ever do that again because the fans will make or break you at Rangers.’ I did find it a little bit strange, even disrespectful, to do that.”

Chermiti has been one of the worst signings at Ibrox this season, and the centre-forward has a long way to go before showing an attitude in G51.

The former Everton ace didn’t score or assist in his two years at Goodison Park, leading to criticism of his recruitment for a significant sum at the Glaswegian outfit.

Kevin Thelwell has failed major tests at Ibrox

Kevin Thelwell landed as the recruitment guru at Ibrox under the American ownership, but he arguably weakened the squad in the previous transfer window.

Rangers lost Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane in the summer, and the former Everton chief’s first significant challenge was to replace them, but he failed.

Bojan Miovski’s return to the William Hill Premiership hasn’t gone smoothly, while the jury is still out on Chermiti.

Thelwell has to take responsibility for the Gers’ recent downfall, and Danny Rohl should demand further reinforcements in January.
