James Tavernier could lead exclusive Rangers vs Hibernian club if he does one thing

Rangers star James Tavernier could make history in the clash with Hibernian on Wednesday.

Tavernier was linked with a Rangers exit in the summer, but ultimately outlasted Russell Martin at Ibrox, as the manager was dismissed.

Danny Rohl replaced Martin, and he has a mixed start to life in Govan, with one win and one loss so far in the two games that he has managed.

Tavernier’s frustration was clear after Rangers’ defeat to SK Brann on 23 October, but he will have been happy with the win over Kilmarnock, and will hope to continue the momentum at Easter Road.

James Tavernier can make history in Hibernian vs Rangers

Tavernier is expected to captain Rangers when they make the trip to face the Edinburgh side on 29 October.

Tavernier could become the leading assister in Rangers vs Hibernian matches, as he is currently level with five other players on three in the history of the contest.

He could also join Alfredo Morelos as the top goalscorer in the fixture, although he would need to score a brace to do that.

The 33-year-old is already the player who has featured the most times in the clash, with 30 appearances against Hibs in his time with the Light Blues.

Danny Rohl needs Tavernier to step up for Rangers

Tavernier’s comments after the Europa League loss did not go down well with the Gers’ fanbase, but he has shown this season that he can step up.

He already has four league goals to his name, in the nine matches that the Bears have played, and Rohl may need him to continue that.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss needs the veteran to prove why he has the armband in Govan, and step up once again.

Tavernier sticking around was the right outcome for the Gers, but now he needs to continue to pop up with vital moments, and if he can manage an assist against David Gray’s side, he will lead an exclusive club.

He has shown an ability to get his side out of danger, and that could prove crucial for Rohl in the coming weeks.
