Graham Spiers reacts to dramatic Rangers and Celtic developments he has seen – ‘Finally…’

Rangers will take on Celtic for the second time this season on Sunday in a fixture that promises fireworks at Hampden.

Rangers’ last battle against rivals Celtic ended in a goalless draw back in August; however, Gers fans will be feeling more optimistic now that Danny Rohl has taken over at Ibrox.

Indeed, Rangers defeated Kilmarnock 3-1 on 26 October to earn their first home win of the Scottish Premiership season, creating momentum.

As a result, the Gers will fancy their chances in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final on 2 November, with the Scottish Premiership slipping away.

Graham Spiers pleased at Hearts’ league performances

A difficult start to the season under Russell Martin means that Rangers are currently 13 points behind league leaders Hearts.

Indeed, the Jam Tarts defeated Celtic at home over the weekend to go eight points clear at the top of the table at Tynecastle.

While Rangers and Celtic fans will no doubt be unimpressed with their league positions, Graham Spiers is more than happy with recent developments.

“The tectonic plates of Scottish football are finally and dramatically shifting,” he said via X.

“No club outside Rangers or Celtic has won the title in 40 years. Hearts have just clubbed Celtic 3-1 to go eight points clear at the top. Beyond dispute, Derek McInnes and Hearts are now title favourites.”

This comes after it was suggested that Rangers’ win over Kilmarnock would mean little if Hearts continue their stellar form.

Indeed, a third-place finish is all Rohl can hope for at the moment in what could be a historic season for Hearts in the Premiership.

How will Rangers improve their league finish?

Simply put, Rangers can climb the league table if they continue to build on the performance shown against Kilmarnock.

Other than a blunder from Jack Butland to concede Rangers’ only goal of the game, Rohl’s side were impressive.

With the way Hearts are performing, there will be little room for mistakes moving forward.

However, the Gers will play them twice more in the first phase this season, which will be a perfect opportunity for them to advance their league position.

As a result, with hard work, persistence and a bit of luck, Rangers’ fate could look very favourable in a few months.
