‘Stuart Kettlewell will be absolutely raging with Rangers flashpoint vs Kilmarnock’ – This is why

Danny Rohl enjoyed a dream first match in charge at Ibrox, as Rangers finally got back to winning ways on Sunday.

Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-1, with goals from Danilo and Youssef Chermiti sealing a much-needed three points for the Gers.

Derek Cornelius found the opener, getting on the end of a James Tavernier free-kick to nod home before George Stanger equalised for the visitors.

Rohl decided to bring Danilo in from the cold against Kilmarnock, and was rewarded when the Brazilian got on the end of Jayden Meghoma‘s cross.

Chermiti was slammed for his performance against Brann on Thursday, but the summer signing responded to the critics by finishing well from outside the box.

Stuart Kettlewell will be ‘raging’ after Danilo goal

Rohl would have been incredibly happy to see his side respond so quickly after Thursday’s horror show in Norway.

Rangers were battered in the Europa League, but against Kilmarnock, they showed signs of a potential resurgence under the German.

The home side absolutely dominated in possession and constantly looked to cause issues from crosses.

The ease with which Cornelius had found space behind the Kilmarnock defence had been the first major warning sign for Stuart Kettlewell’s team, and Danilo’s goal reiterated the danger.

The Brazilian found space in between the defenders and headed in off the post to give Rangers the lead.

Speaking live on BBC Sportsound on Sunday, Billy Dodds slammed the Kilmarnock defence for their part in the goal.

“I tell you what, Stuart Kettlewell will be raging,” he said. “Because, when the cross comes in, he’s the smallest guy there, he’s amongst his three big centre-halves, he gets between two of them and gets a header on goal.

“Brilliant from Danilo, but from a Kilmarnock point of view, I think Stuart Kettlewell will be absolutely raging with that goal.”

Danny Rohl would have been delighted with Danilo’s impact

Danilo had been very much on the periphery under Russell Martin. The striker had not even appeared in the squad for the final two Scottish Premiership matches played under the Englishman.

The Brazilian was not massively involved against Kilmarnock – he had just two touches in the opposition box in his 69 minutes on the pitch – but when he was, he proved deadly.

Rangers have been crying out for goals this season, but it appears that Martin had been ignoring one of the players most capable of supplying them.
