Kris Boyd shares ‘behind-the-scenes’ Ibrox intel after Simon Thomas blasts ‘shambolic’ Rangers

Kris Boyd made the most of his airtime on Saturday as he tore into Rangers on Sky Sports News after Simon Thomas asked him what’s going on at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl’s first game in charge ended in a shock 3-0 defeat to Brann in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Rohl was hired after a protracted search for Russell Martin‘s successor, which saw Rangers rejected by Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat and, at one point, even Rohl walked away from talks.

Rangers’ American ownership has endured a nightmare start to their tenure at Ibrox – and fan anger has risen to the highest level in a very long time.

Kris Boyd reacts to Kevin Thelwell scenes at airport after Rangers loss vs Brann

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart were confronted by Rangers fans in Norway following the loss to Brann.

Video footage on social media showed Rangers fans hurling abuse at Thelwell and Stewart.

Rohl also spoke to Rangers fans at Bergen Airport, apologising for the result and performance against Brann. Stats by Sofascore show just how bad it was.

Gillette Soccer Saturday host Simon Thomas probably doesn’t follow Rangers that closely but even he could see when he spoke to Boyd on Saturday how bad processes have been at Ibrox lately.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Saturday: “Let’s talk about the process, a process that saw Gerrard and Muscat walking away from what we understood to be fairly advanced talks, why’s it been so shambolic?”

Boyd replied: “I don’t know – I don’t think anybody does other than the people behind the scenes. There’s a lot of unrest at the club in regards to Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart from the fans.

What happened at the airport on Thursday night, it’s not what you want to see. Fans are questioning and they have every right to because the recruitment hasn’t been anywhere near the level it has to be to be successful.

Youssef Chermiti and Steven Gerrard issues also highlighted

One of the main reasons Thelwell is receiving pelters from fans has been his woeful use of transfer funds at Ibrox.

After arriving from Everton in the summer, Thelwell then spent £8.5million of his budget on signing Youssef Chermiti, a striker who couldn’t even score for the Toffees.

Chermiti’s been brought in from Everton and I don’t see it. I really don’t see it,” Boyd said.

I know he’s a young boy, but for that kind of money, you have to come in and rip the league up. He’s not scored, he’s not looked like scoring, so the recruitment is questionable.

And, as for the managerial hunt to replace Martin, who was sacked just a few months into his time in charge at Ibrox, Boyd thought something was amiss behind the scenes about the way a move for Gerrard failed.

“Steven Gerrard, we heard at the time it was the timing, but he jumped on a plane from Bahrain to London in six hours. What’s changed? For me, it was obviously something behind the scenes,” the ex-striker added.
