Danny Rohl must avoid matching horrific Rangers record that has stood since 1988 vs Kilmarnock

Danny Rohl has inherited a woeful situation at Rangers.

Rohl was hired as the new Rangers manager last week, to replace Russell Martin, who was sacked after just four months in charge.

Rangers sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership, after winning just one of their opening eight matches in the competition.

Rohl has a huge task on his hands to turn things around in Govan, and his reign started with a 3-0 Europa League loss to SK Brann.

He will back himself after his impressive spell with Sheffield Wednesday, shown in the Sofascore graphic below, but he could play a part in a historically bad record.

Rangers dismal Ibrox record is under the microscope

Rangers have a grim record at home so far this season, having played four, with three draws and a loss.

They have scored just three and conceded five in their matches in front of their own fans, including a 2-0 loss to league leaders Hearts.

The last time that Rangers failed to win five Scottish Premiership matches at Ibrox was in August 1988, under the stewardship of Graeme Souness.

If they fail to beat Kilmarnock on 26 October, they will match that record, already putting Rohl in the history books, for all the wrong reasons.

Why Danny Rohl can turn it around at Rangers

Rangers supporters were concerned when Rohl was appointed, with comparisons made to Martin due to their backgrounds in the English Championship.

However, he has already shown that he is nothing like Martin, both in and out of the dugout, which should be a relief.

He addressed angry supporters at Bergen Airport after the loss in Norway, showing the kind of accountability that the Gers fans want from their manager.

He has also embraced the traditions of the Govan club, which Martin so blatantly disregarded, to the fury of the majority of the fanbase.

Rohl has the tools to turn the atmosphere around in terms of his man-management style, and his ability to resonate with the support base.

He needs the results to match on the pitch though, that will be the be all and end all, what will sum up his time at Auchenhowie.

Whether he can get them, remains to be seen, but he needs a victory against the East Ayrshire outfit to avoid joining a club that he will not want to be a part of.
