Nasser Djiga axed as Danny Rohl makes drastic changes – Rangers predicted XI vs Kilmarnock

Danny Rohl could be about to make wholesale changes as his Rangers side prepare to face Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The German is set to take charge at Ibrox for the first time this weekend, as he goes in search of a victory that would lift his new team above their latest visitors.

Rohl’s Rangers were dismantled by Brann in his first outing as boss on Thursday night, as the Norwegian outfit cruised to a 3-0 victory on home turf in the Europa League.

The Gers now face a tight turnaround for Sunday’s clash, and there were several performances from the midweek embarrassment that simply do not warrant another start.

Youssef Chermiti benched after woeful Rangers display

Youssef Chermiti was anonymous for Rangers yet again on Thursday night, as he completed just seven accurate passes throughout his 55-minute cameo against Brann.

The Portuguese’s displays have left a lot to be desired since his arrival from Everton on deadline day, and Rohl may have already lost patience with the frontman after what he saw in midweek.

Elsewhere in the team, there was a similarly disastrous performance from Jayden Meghoma at left-back, with the loanee responsible for several errors at the back and also careless with the ball at his feet.

Nasser Djiga could also drop out of the starting XI in favour of Derek Cornelius, after the former produced another error-strewn display last time out.

Oliver Antman is likely to be the final man to drop out, with Rohl potentially keen to get a look at Mikey Moore in the early stages of his reign.

Bojan Miovski and Max Aarons round off the quartet who could come in from the start, with Rangers trying to bolster their struggling backline with as much experience as possible.

Danny Rohl hoping to repeat first Sheffield Wednesday home game vs Kilmarnock

Rohl seemingly endeared himself to the travelling Rangers fans after the game on Thursday night, as he went over the away end to speak to those who had travelled.

The away contingent then sang the German’s name as he made his way back across the pitch, and there were early signs of a relationship potentially being built.

The 36-year-old will be in the spotlight even more on Sunday, when he makes his debut in the home dugout at Ibrox, and he will surely be desperate to see a repeat of his first home game in charge of Sheffield Wednesday.

Rohl’s Owls side were defeated away from home in both of his opening two games in charge in South Yorkshire, but they notched three points in his first home win with a 2-0 victory over Rotherham United on 29 October 2023.

He will be dreaming of a similarly successful afternoon this time around, and a clean sheet would be a welcome bonus for Rangers, given their defensive struggles of late.

It hasn’t been easy for the Govan outfit of late, but a home victory on Sunday would be the perfect way to kickstart Rohl’s reign.
