Danny Rohl has already failed first Rangers test after what Djeidi Gassama did vs Brann

In theory, Danny Rohl and Djeidi Gassama should be the match made in heaven for Rangers.

New manager, same issues for the Light Blues.

Rangers’ 3-0 defeat to Brann in the Europa League was their third successive loss in the competition, and the first one that fell on the shoulders of Rohl.

The Gers looked lost, disjointed, and, in all honesty, the exact same side that has failed to impress since the start of the campaign.

Rohl will not take any flak for that, given the quick turnaround, though there will be some added concern over the performance of Gassama.

Djeidi Gassama was dreadful vs Brann, though he wasn’t alone

Gassama has the potential to be a gem for Rangers under Rohl, and if we’re being honest, he’s probably the only summer signing who has shown his quality.

However, consistency has been his biggest downfall since making the move to Glasgow, and the hope was that the appointment of Rohl could rejuvenate his form immediately.

That was not to be the case on Thursday night.

The Frenchman had very little influence in the game, aside from a controversial incident where Gassama was booked for merely brushing his opponent’s shoulder.

With that said, the biggest concern will be that it was statistically one of his worst performances in a Rangers shirt, despite the added bonus of being reunited with Rohl.

Via Sofascore, he created just one chance against Brann and completed just one dribble, which is less than half of what he has averaged per 90 in the Scottish Premiership.

Gassama was more involved in the game off the ball, though that is not what the Light Blues will want to see from him, given the lack of attacking threat posed for the last few weeks.

Rangers need to stick with Djeidi Gassama

It goes without saying, but he wasn’t the only Rangers star who was woeful on Thursday night, though he is one of a select few who will have some slack cut for them, given some of their performances this season.

Youssef Chermiti should be dropped for good, while Oliver Antman needs to show far more if he is to keep his place in the side.

Gassama, though, has shown more than enough since joining Rangers to warrant his place in the side, even throughout this dreadful run of form.

Rohl has many other issues to address before his inclusion is even under consideration.
