Danny Rohl has already done what Russell Martin couldn’t as Rangers footage shared after Brann defeat

Danny Rohl is only one game into his tenure at Rangers and he has already managed something that Russell Martin never could.

The German was only appointed at Ibrox earlier this week, but has already taken charge of his first game in Thursday night’s heavy 3-0 defeat to Brann in the Europa League.

Rangers captain James Tavernier blasted the his team’s performance after they were beaten by the Norwegian side, who were never really troubled with any severity by their visitors.

The size of the task at hand has surely now become clear to Rohl, but there was at least one moment of promise to come out of what was otherwise a wretched evening for the Gers.

Danny Rohl showing signs of building relationship with Rangers fans

One of the most striking elements of Martin’s reign was his woeful relationship with the Rangers fans, to whom he simply never endeared himself right from the very beginning.

The 39-year-old quickly gained a reputation for being stubborn and opinionated, and his arrogance in relation to his ability and style of play was clear to see throughout.

Rohl’s appointment was met with plenty of concern by the fanbase in general, but there are already signs that he is well on his way to building the kind of connection with the supporters that his predecessor never had.

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack shared footage of the German talking to fans in the away end after the defeat via his X account, with the travelling fans then loudly singing his name as he made his way back across the pitch.

This interaction certainly shouldn’t overshadow what was another hugely frustrating performance from the Gers, but the new boss appears to have won a section of the fanbase over with his actions, which can only be a positive thing moving forward.

Ibrox issues run deeper than the managerial situation

Much has been made of Rohl’s decision to respect Rangers traditions and wear a suit on the touchline in recent days, another element of the club that Martin failed to embrace.

However, while he has made a positive start in terms of the way that he carries himself off the pitch, he will still ultimately be judged on results, by both the supporters and the hierarchy.

The 36-year-old has a mammoth task on his hands, but the unity generated by building a relationship will be invaluable as he tries to turn the team around.

The concerning lack of difference in the performance during the defeat to Brann highlights the fact that the issues at Ibrox seemingly rum deeper than the man stood in the dugout.

Kevin Thelwell’s position has been under ever-increasing scrutiny of late, and he appears to have assembled a squad that is woefully inequipped to play for a club of such stature.

Rohl will need to oversee major work on the group in January, and given the state of the squad at his disposal, he is certainly deserving of some patience in the early stages of his reign.
