Ally McCoist cannot believe what is also happening off the pitch at Rangers – ‘Astonishing’

Rangers crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Brann in the Europa League on Thursday, in what was Danny Rohl’s first match in charge.

Rangers’ disgraceful loss to Brann on 23 October leaves them without a point in their Europa League campaign, despite playing three games now.

Andrew Cavenagh has faced scrutiny for the unacceptable start to the season, with fans demanding changes be made on the Rangers board already.

Ally McCoist was in Norway for the defeat on Thursday, and couldn’t believe the current state of affairs in the top office at Ibrox.

Robbie Thelwell appointment unbelievable at Ibrox

Kevin Thelwell’s position at Rangers is already untenable after overseeing one of the worst summer transfer windows in the Bears’ history.

Following their latest appalling result, Rangers are being ridiculed, and much of the blame lies in the hands of Thelwell, who somehow spent over £20million in the summer.

Speaking live on TNT Sports during the match, McCoist was also critical of Thelwell’s decision to appoint his son, Robbie, as the new head of recruitment.

“I’ve got it up and down as bizarre. In the current climate, it’s astonishing,” he said.

Kevin Thelwell’s appointments at Rangers:

Robbie Thelwell has previously worked for Norwich, Wolves, and Aston Villa, although fans are furious with his appointment given the current circumstances at Ibrox.

It follows a series of decisions made by Thelwell that have left supporters questioning which direction the Govan club is heading in.

Hiring his son was not only a clear sign of nepotism, but it also clearly opened him up to more pressure during a time when Rangers are spiralling into despair.

The Bears are a mess from top to bottom, with Thelwell being the architect for Rangers’ early-season struggles.

Kevin Thelwell has made an unprecedented level of mistakes

We could be here all day if we were to go through every bad move Thelwell has made since he arrived in Glasgow in June.

The sporting director blew millions of pounds on the likes of Youssef Chermiti and Emmanuel Fernandez, whilst Thelo Aasgaard and Oliver Antman are yet to hit the ground running consistently.

Thelwell’s decision to make behind-the-scenes appointments whilst Bears fans were livid with Russell Martin’s reign spoke volumes as to how out of touch he seems to be with the supporters.

It’s clear that the board haven’t grasped how big a club Rangers really is, and based on current evidence, the 51-year-old is sleepwalking his way to a Rangers exit.
