Timo Werner to Rangers one to watch after Ibrox announcement

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner may be an option for Rangers to bolster their attack for Danny Rohl in the winter transfer window.

The Germany international has had a tough time of things in recent years after bursting onto the scene in the Bundesliga.

Bojan Miovski has struggled at Ibrox, with the North Macedonia international failing to replicate the form he showed at Aberdeen.

Kevin Thelwell’s decision to sign Youssef Chermiti has also backfired, as the former Everton striker has failed to live up to expectations, leaving the Glaswegian outfit without a goalscoring threat right now, a problem that should be addressed in January.

Rangers performance manager Sascha Lense related to Timo Werner

Sascha Lense has reunited with Rohl at the Gers after working together at Sheffield Wednesday.

The German national has joined the Light Blues as the new men’s first-team performance manager at Ibrox and has previously worked with Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United.

Lense is Werner’s father-in-law, and their relationship may be something the Glaswegian outfit could use to discuss a move for the 29-year-old attacker in the future, Daniel Caw says.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 22 October, the Daily Record journalist said: “Lense is Werner’s father-in-law, the new Rangers [performance manager]. So that’s maybe one to watch.”

Thelwell has been slammed by fans for spending £8million on Chermiti despite the Portugal Under-21 international failing to do much in Merseyside.

The Gers’ summer recruitment strategy has failed to strengthen the team, and the absence of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane is being felt.

Danny Rohl to change Djeidi Gassama situation

Djeidi Gassama has had a dip in form at Ibrox after making an instant impact since joining from Sheffield Wednesday.

With Rohl now in charge, the ex-Owls boss will be expected to know how to bring the best out of the 22-year-old at Rangers.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the French youngster being handed more freedom under the German manager up front, with Chermiti starting as the target man.

Werner, who has scored 102 goals in the Bundesliga, may not be the solution to the Light Blues’ attacking woes; instead, Rohl should look at how he can improve individual performances in the current squad.
