Keith Hackett Exclusive: Double-digit ban must be served after ‘blatant cheating’ in Brann vs Rangers – ‘Disgrace’

Rangers fans witnessed another woeful display as Brann won 3-0 in their Europa League showdown on Thursday.

Brann Stadion hosted Danny Rohl’s team on 23 October, with Emil Kornvig, Jacob Sorensen and Noah Holm finding the back of the net.

The Light Blues faced familiar issues against the Norwegian outfit as they looked all over defensively, something that hasn’t changed since Russell Martin’s time in G51.

Rohl dropped Derek Cornelius and Bojan Miovski from the starting lineup, and while the players let the German manager down, Vasilis Fotias’ refereeing could’ve been better.

Emil Kornvig deserves ban after playacting in Rangers loss vs Brann

Authorities need to send a message and hand Kornvig a double-digit ban after pretending to be hit in the face by Djeidi Gassama at the Brann Stadion.

In the 37th minute of the fixture, the Norwegian outfit’s midfielder got into a tussle with the 22-year-old attacker and went down, leading to a yellow card for the Gers forward.

On further inspection, it was clear that Kornvic was pretending to be hit in the face by the French attacker, which certainly goes against the spirit of the game.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett said: “This, frankly, is a disgrace and really has no part in our great game. It’s blatant cheating and tarnishes the image of our game. The IFAB at the start of the Laws of the Game highlight the Philosophy and Spirit of the Laws.”

Hackett added: “They are increasingly concerned about the poor participant behaviour. The authorities must act, and I would like to see this player serve a double-digit ban. A message needs to be sent out that this type of behaviour is damaging to the image of the game.”

Rohl has been handed a reality check at Ibrox, and the pressure is on the ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager straightaway after losing to Brann.

Danny Rohl can have no complaints after loss vs Brann

Rohl was being compared to Russell Martin after being appointed at the Gres, and there may be some truth to it.

There were a few changes to how Rangers played against Brann, but the same old problems that plagued them under the former Southampton boss reared their heads at the Brann Stadion.

The German head coach has to quickly learn on the job as he doesn’t have much time to implement his ideas, with games coming thick and fast.

With games against Celtic and Roma on the horizon at the start of November, Rohl needs to turn things around sooner rather than later at Ibrox.
