‘Embarrassing’ – Johan Mjallby reacts to what Alan Hutton just said about Rangers vs Brann

Rangers lost 3-0 to Brann as their Europa League campaign continued in miserable fashion.

Danny Rohl’s first game in charge ended in the worst possible way, with Brann dominating the Bears from start to finish on Thursday.

Rangers fans are furious with Kevin Thelwell for bringing in unproven players, and the lack of quality in both boxes was on display once again on 23 October.

It was once again an abysmal result in what has been a truly shocking start to the Bears’ season, and scrutiny will once again turn on the board for what happened in Norway.

Rangers drop to 36th in the Europa League table after dreadful display

As it stands, Rangers are bottom of the Europa League table, highlighting what a shambles they have been in the competition.

Speaking on TNT Sports after the match, former Celtic player Johan Mjallby agreed with Alan Hutton’s criticism of Rangers’ performance, in a night to forget all round.

Hutton said: “To have one shot on target against the lowest-seeded team in the competition is really poor.”

Mjallby added: “It is embarrassing to lose to Brann 3-0, and I don’t see how they can perform like that.

“This group of players isn’t good enough, and if Rohl can make them good again, he deserves a medal.”

Rangers’ Europa League record

Rangers’ 3-0 loss to Brann leaves them with a huge task in achieving qualification for the knockout rounds, even if it has become the norm in recent years.

With matches against Porto and Roma still to come in the Europa League, it seems more than unlikely that the Bears could replicate their brilliant European runs from 2022 and 2024.

Rohl will need to lift his players for their match against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Sunday, yet their Europa League journey looks set to end in January after what happened in Norway.

The defeat highlights how much work Rohl must do in G51, with the games now coming thick and fast.

Danny Rohl has a huge job on his hands at Rangers

Rohl’s appointment has been praised, even though Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard were both lined up as candidates ahead of the 36-year-old.

Poor defending was yet again the undoing of a Rangers side that is so low on confidence, as they were carved open numerous times by a buoyant Brann side.

In attack, they were toothless, with Youssef Chermiti once again failing to impress in his third start for the Light Blues.

Rangers have five matches to play ahead of the next international break, and Rohl will slowly start to implement his style of play on this dejected group of players.
