BBC pundit fumes at Rangers ‘disgrace’ after scenes in loss vs Brann

Danny Rohl would’ve been right to have a go at the referee as Rangers faced Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

Rohl took charge of his first game at the Brann Stadion on 23 October, and the Gers’ defensive frailties were once again on show.

While the Light Blues created a few opportunities against the Norwegian outfit, the hosts took the lead in the 40th minute through Emil Kornvig, with Jacob Sorensen and Noah Holm adding to the Light Blues’ woes in the 3-0 defeat.

The Glaswegian outfit looked flustered in the final third, with the likes of Jayden Meghoma letting Rohl down with a poor cross, and Youssef Chermiti and Thelo Aasgaard lacking composure.

Emil Kornvig simulation in Brann vs Rangers called out

Djeidi Gassama was booked in the 37th minute after he was deemed to have fouled Kornvig in the Gers corner.

While the French youngster’s actions initially looked serious, on further inspection, it was clear that the Norwegian outfit’s midfielder went down easily, with no contact to his face as he clutched it.

Vasilis Fotias showed the Glaswegian outfit’s 22-year-old forward a yellow card, but there was nothing in his challenge to warrant that.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 23 October, Steven Thompson said: “Gassama’s just been booked because an opposition player pretended he’s been hit in the face. That’s a disgrace.”

Gassama has seen his form dip at Ibrox in recent matches, but fans will hope he can find his feet again under Rohl.

The German manager worked with the attacker at Sheffield Wednesday and was able to get the best out of him.

Danny Rohl to realise mistake at Ibrox

Rohl’s attacking brand of play seems to be the blueprint he’s brought to Ibrox, and while fans of certain clubs will be excited by it, the Gers supporters won’t.

The Rangers faithful have seen the results of Russell Martin’s progressive style in G51 and are craving something different with the new manager.

While the German manager has his own ideas, he will certainly have to tweak them if he wants to gain the trust of supporters at Ibrox.

The Glaswegian outfit were culpable of making the same mistakes against Brann they’ve made throughout the season, and that’s something Rohl must learn from.
