Simon Jordan sees no way back for Rangers figure after events at Ibrox

Rangers are looking to build a new era of success under Danny Rohl.

Rohl was announced as the new Rangers manager on Monday, yet his appointment was hardly straightforward.

The Rangers manager hunt turned into an embarrassing saga, with both Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard turning down the opportunity.

Simon Jordan slams Andrew Cavenagh’s impact at Rangers

Russell Martin’s appointment was disastrous, with the former Southampton manager lasting just 123 days in charge.

Andrew Cavenagh continued to back Martin despite the fact that fans had already turned on him, and the hesitation in sacking him, plus the farcical search for his successor, deeply impacted the chairman’s relationship with Light Blues supporters.

Since Cavenagh joined Rangers in May, there has been no success on and off the pitch, as the Bears sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership and are playing Europa League football.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 22 October, Jordan criticised the way that Cavenagh has operated over the past few months, and said Rangers fans’ first impressions will likely stick.

He said: “It was a real indication that they learned their lesson on how they should and shouldn’t do things.

“Why the board didn’t understand that Rangers are a massive club evades me. The first impression Cavenagh has made is unfortunately the one that stays with will stay with the Rangers fans.”

Rohl must hit the ground running, and if he doesn’t, Cavenagh will once again face the fury of fans who simply deserve better.

As Jordan said, the Rangers supporters won’t forget what Cavenagh has done in his first few months, and it will take a lot of success for them to let that go.

The Ibrox crowd can be volatile when things aren’t going right, and Cavenagh found that out the hard way.

Rangers fans won’t forget Andrew Cavenagh’s role in Russell Martin’s failures

Over 12,000 fans boycotted Rangers’ Europa League opener against Genk, showcasing the opinion that they have on the current owners.

Cavenagh’s reputation in Govan is incredibly low, and the chaotic manner in which Rohl was appointed has done little to quell any discontent.

As for the rest of the season, Rangers must close the gap on Hearts and Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, while at least making the knockout stages of the Europa League.

If those things don’t happen under Rohl, then supporters really will question exactly what Cavenagh is bringing to the Gers.
