Kevin Thelwell must be having a laugh with his latest Youssef Chermiti claim at Rangers
Kevin Thelwell has been under major criticism for signing Youssef Chermiti at Rangers.
Thelwell has made several high-profile own goals at Rangers, since taking over as sporting director in Govan, including hiring his own son as recruitment chief.
However, the £8.5million swoop to bring the ex-Everton ace to Rangers may be the worst decision of them all.
Thelwell has been subjected to intense pressure over his future at Ibrox, but it seems like he has the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh.

Kevin Thelwell’s new Youssef Chermiti claim proves that he is out of his depth at Rangers
Several high-profile pundits have called for his exit, with Richard Keys urging Rangers to sack Thelwell on two separate occasions.
Derek Ferguson criticised Rangers’ signing of Chermiti, claiming that it was “a baffling decision” and he could not see why the Bears spent so much on him.
However, he has hung on to his job, and has since doubled down on the signature of Portugal Under-21 star, with an absolutely ludicrous claim about the flop.
Speaking at a press conference on 21 October, after Danny Rohl was unveiled the day before, he said: “I signed him at Everton, and he had some Premier League experience there. I can understand why some fans would say, ‘Well, come on, he hasn’t got the resume yet that shows he is going to be capable of doing X, Y, and Z for our team or being sold for this number or that number’.
“But in reality, if he had even a small resume, he wouldn’t, with some of the qualities that he’s got, be coming to Rangers.
“In the open market, a player like him who has proved he has the ability to score goals, and that is what he will eventually be judged on, will be transferred for a number that we just couldn’t afford.”
Thelwell is simply wrong with Chermiti claim
Thelwell said Chermiti is a player who has a proven ability to score, but that is simply not the case, and he must be having a laugh.
He has failed to notch a single strike in seven matches for the Gers, and before that, with the Blues, he did not make a particularly good impression.
He was injured for a large majority of his stint on Merseyside, but featured 24 times for the Toffees, with no goals at all, in any competition.
Even at Sporting, where he started his career, he only scored three goals in 22 appearances, and his record for the youth teams was nothing special.
The goals of which Thelwell speaks are simply non-existent; the 21-year-old is not a prolific striker, and it is a blatant lie to say that he is.
He has already created tension between himself and the Light Blues supporters, if he continues to make such statements, then that will only deepen.
