Hansi Flick sends Danny Rohl message after Rangers confirm appointment

Rangers manager Danny Rohl and Barcelona boss Hansi Flick know each other very well.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss worked as Germany’s assistant head coach during the 60-year-old’s time at the national team.

Flick was impressed by Rohl’s work at Hillsborough, and it looks like the Barcelona boss has a keen interest in the current Gers boss’s career.

The Ibrox faithful will travel to Brann Stadion on 23 October as the Glaswegian outfit face Brann in the Europa League in what will be the 36-year-old head coach’s first test since being appointed in G51.

Hansi Flick wants best for Rangers manager Danny Rohl

Flick wished Rohl the best of luck after he was appointed the Gers manager.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss revealed he received a message from the Barcelona head coach, who was delighted about his move to Ibrox.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the relatively young head coach get in touch with Flick when the going gets tough at the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland on 22 October, Rohl said: “Yeah, he wrote me a message, ‘Good luck and all the best,’ and he’s very happy I joined this club now. It’s always great to have such a message from such an experienced coach. And it’s always good to know when you need, you can call about football sometimes.”

Rohl undoubtedly wasn’t Andre Cavenagh’s first choice, with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat looking as the preferred candidates for most of the managerial search.

Now that the ex-Owls boss has arrived in G51, fans will certainly be behind him unless things go south early on for him at the Gers.

Danny Rohl must prove fans wrong at Ibrox

Rohl is being compared to Russell Martin, with many fans feeling he will suffer the same fate as the former Southampton boss at the Light Blues.

It’s up to the German head coach to prove that his ideas and style of play are distinct from the Scottish manager’s at Rangers, even if there may be some superficial similarities.

Having worked under an esteemed Champions League-winning manager like Flick, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Rohl embody some of those ideas — a high defensive line being the most prominent feature.

Supporters in G51 will hope the aspirations the new owners showed them under Martin finally come true with a change in the dugout.
