Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe should be ashamed as Rangers fans given false hope

Danny Rohl finally ended Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe’s search for a new manager at Rangers.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss will take charge of the Gers as they face Brann away from home in the Europa League on 23 October.

However, the process to replace Russell Martin wasn’t straightforward, with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat rejecting the proposal from Ibrox, in what ended up being a terrible soap opera in G51.

The US consortium were expected to relieve the Glaswegian outfit of its ails when they took over a few months back, but things seem to have only gone downhill since.

Rangers a shambles under Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises

Under the new ownership, the Gers have been an “absolute shambles”, Gordon Dalziel says.

The former Scottish striker feels the Light Blues’ current hierarchy have failed to live up to expectations at Ibrox, with Martin’s appointment backfiring.

Even the recruitment under Kevin Thelwell has been underwhelming, with none of the 13 new players the Glaswegian outfit signed in the summer exciting Dalziel, something they should be ashamed of.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscorboard on 21 October, the Scotsman said: “I think they’ve been an absolute shambles. They came in, gave Rangers fans false hope for me. They picked the wrong appointment right away. Their transfer window has been terrible. I look at that squad, 13 players brought in, and none of them excite me.”

Rohl wasn’t a popular choice among the Ibrox faithful, with Gerrard and Muscat seen as better fits to turn the tide at the Gers, and the ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss now has to win the fans over.

There is a sense of fear among many supporters that the German head coach’s tenure in G51 will suffer the same fate as Martin’s, as they are perceived as managers with a possession-based philosophy.

Danny Rohl backroom staff revealed at Ibrox

Rohl has to get off to a perfect start at Brann Stadion to help his standing and that of his backroom staff among the fans.

Matthias Kaltenbach has joined as the new Rangers assistant manager, previously working with Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim.

Sascha Lense is the new men’s first-team performance manager and was part of the 36-year-old head coach’s backroom team at Sheffield Wednesday, and also worked with Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United.

Gers fans just want to see their team win and get back to the top, and if Rohl and his staff can do that, then they will be backed by the supporters to the hilt.
