Rangers may have just hired next Michael Beale as Danny Rohl verdict drops from Germany

Rangers could yet turn their season around after the appointment of Danny Rohl.

The Gers’ start to the 2025-26 season has been catastrophic due to Russell Martin’s disastrous Rangers tenure.

Steven Smith stepped in as Rangers’ interim boss for the 2-2 draw with Dundee United on Saturday, a point which highlighted the same frailties ahead of Rohl’s arrival.

Ibrox has seen some bad times since Steven Gerrard left, with Michael Beale’s reign at Rangers ending sourly, like many after him.

Now, some concerning news has emerged, with worrying comparisons between Beale and Rohl mentioned already in Govan.

Rohl has an exciting CV, having coached for Germany’s national team and at Bayern Munich, but Sheffield Wednesday was his first head coach role.

Similarly, Beale took the Rangers job after just a handful of months with experience as a head coach of QPR.

Former Gers man, Alan Hutton, has expressed his concern about the similarities between Rohl and Beale after listening to German expert Raphael Honigstein, who recalled his tactical plans from working under the very best.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, Hutton said, “Michael Beale was meant to be the brains behind Steven Gerrard. He came in and took the [Rangers] job, but it didn’t work.

“He’s [Rohl] never had to cope with this, alright, he’s been at big clubs, but he’s been number two, you’re not in the hot seat, and you’re going into an atmosphere that’s toxic and have to turn it around instantly.

“The proof is in the pudding. He is going to have to hit the ground running, instantly. You’ve got a huge game Thursday night, and you’ve hardly got any time to get you’re points across.”

Luckily for Rangers fans, Rohl’s CV speaks volumes over Beale’s.

Rohl’s CV blasts Beale’s out of the park

Rohl’s experience in Germany cannot be underestimated; he worked with world-class talent, and that showed during his time at Sheffield Wednesday.

The German coach managed to keep Sheffield Wednesday up for two seasons, despite an ongoing crisis at the club with owner Dejphon Chansiri, where fans are currently planning to boycott their game against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Rohl had limited tools at Wednesday, and despite that, Owls fans were gutted to see him leave. Beale, on the other hand, only has a couple of positive weeks at QPR to his CV.

Rangers will move forward with Rohl, and silverware success cannot be ruled out this season for the Bears if all goes well.
