Barry Bannan hits back at what Josh Windass just asked about Rangers and Celtic after Danny Rohl news
Danny Rohl’s appointment at Rangers has provoked immediate reactions from several notable faces in football.
Rohl finally arrived at Ibrox on Monday after Rangers fans were left in suspense for days about who would replace Russell Martin.
Rangers sacked Martin after a difficult start to the season, but things at Ibrox will not be an easy fix for his successor.
Despite this, Rohl is expected to succeed at Rangers with fans hoping for real change over the next couple of months.

Barry Bannan will support Celtic during the Old Firm derby
Rohl’s first game for Rangers will be challenging as they travel to Norway to face SK Brann in the UEFA Europa League on 23 October.
However, there will be hopes that he develops somewhat of a cohesive team before the Gers take on rivals Celtic in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup on 2 November.
Current Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan trained under Rohl when he was manager of the Championship side. But before his time at The Owls, Bannan spent part of his youth at Celtic.
- Bannan has made over 400 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday
- He joined Celtic’s youth academy in 2002 and departed for Aston Villa in 2004
While Bannan has sung Rohl’s praises consistently in the past, he is set to stay loyal to the club of his youth when they take on the Gers.
When asked by former Rangers midfielder Josh Windass via Instagram stories on 21 October on who he would support in the Old Firm derby now that Rohl is manager, Bannan replied with the caption: “What a silly question.“

A joke between friends and former teammates, but it is clear to see where Bannan’s allegiance lies.
What will Danny Rohl bring to Rangers?
Rohl will no doubt bring an element of freshness to this Rangers side, which lacks the character to compete in all competitions.
He has proven that he can lift teams during times of crisis, having guided Sheffield Wednesday to safety in the Championship when he became manager in 2023.

While his win rate with The Owls may unnerve Rangers fans, it is safe to say that the Gers are at a point where they’re willing to give him a chance to work his magic.
It is difficult to see Rohl staying beyond a couple of seasons at Ibrox, but what the Gers need right now is a manager who will save their season.
And given his track record in the Championship, Rohl could be the right man for the job.
