Andrew Cavenagh to pre-record Rangers press conference with Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, this is why

Rangers decision-makers have taken plenty of criticism in recent days, after a strenuous managerial search that has ultimately resulted in the appointment of Danny Rohl.

Rohl was named manager of Rangers on Monday, despite the German seemingly turning down the job just days before.

The former Sheffield Wednesday coach had been among several options under consideration at Ibrox, including Hearts boss Derek McInnes.

But Rangers had looked to have settled on Kevin Muscat, with the former Gers defender in the latter stages of negotiations to fill the empty dugout at Ibrox.

In a late twist, however, Rangers’ deal to hire Muscat collapsed, with Rohl ultimately re-entering the frame thereafter.

Rangers hierarchy to pre-record presser

Kevin Thelwell, Andrew Cavenagh, and Patrick Stewart were in attendance for Rohl’s first press conference in charge of Rangers on Tuesday.

But many of the questions on the tops of fans’ heads will be aimed at the decision-makers themselves, who have failed to convince anyone of their competency in recent months.

Questions continue to surround the decision to hire Russell Martin, and the amount of time it took for the Englishman to be dismissed, despite the Gers’ terrible start to the season.

The search to replace him has not inspired confidence, either, with several candidates clearly unconvinced by the attempts of the Rangers higher-ups.

Fans will get to see Cavenagh, Thelwell and Stewart questioned, but the press conference will not be released until Wednesday morning, and will be pre-recorded, according to David Edgar.

Rangers need Danny Rohl success to avert criticism

Jim White and Martin O’Neil were among those to slam the Rangers hierarchy for their overseeing of the last two weeks following Martin’s departure.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Monday, White said: “If Rohl is back in, he’s back in after counting himself out.”

To which O’Neil responded: “It’s so ridiculous. Rangers have been in decline now for quite some time and look as if they’ve no way of getting out of it.”

Many would have expected Rangers to pursue a more experienced option to deal with the crisis the Gers undoubtedly find themselves in, but with just one managerial role to his name, Rohl is anything but that.

Rangers have, again, sought to be brave in their appointment. They will hope, this time, it does not blow up in their face.
