Richard Keys shares what he’s heard on farcical Rangers manager search, figure told to exit
Rangers have finally secured their new manager, but they have still been subject to criticism.
The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh have had several setbacks before appointing Danny Rohl as the new Rangers boss.
Steven Gerrard, Rohl and Kevin Muscat have turned down the role, before a spectacular U-turn from the German.
Kevin Thelwell has been a particularly easy target as the Gers struggled to get their man over the line.

Richard Keys hits out again at Kevin Thelwell
Richard Keys called on Thelwell to resign after Russell Martin was sacked, and he has now doubled down on that stance.
He questioned who would want to work under the ex-Everton figure and labelled the 51-year-old as the stumbling block to the failed Muscat appointment.
Writing in his personal blog on 20 October, he said: “I’m hearing Kevin Muscat turned the job down because he didn’t fancy reporting to Kevin Thelwell. Who would?
“I said a fortnight ago Thelwell should’ve followed Martin out of the door. He was responsible for making that dud decision. He should be accountable for it.”
Rangers supporters will agree with Keys on Thelwell
The Gers have since appointed Danny Rohl since Keys’ post was released, but his words will still ring true for many supporters.
Thelwell has seemed out of his depth since taking the role with the Gers, first playing a key role in Martin’s appointment.
- 23 April: Thelwell named as new sporting director
- 2 June: Thelwell starts his role in Govan
- 5 June: Russell Martin appointed as new head coach
- 1 October: Thelwell’s son announced as head of recruitment
- 5 October: Russell Martin sacked
- 11 October: Gerrard pulls out of race to become Gers manager
- 16 October: Rohl also pulls out
- 19 October: Muscat deal breaks down after talks with Thelwell and Greitar Steinsson
- 20 October: Danny Rohl hired as new head coach
He then appointed several cronies to backroom roles, which has led to even more fans turning against him.
The latest saga has done very little to help his case with the support base in Govan, as he has been blamed for several failures, like Gerrard and Muscat.
He will hope that Rohl is successful and the perception around his tenure changes, but that seems unlikely at the moment, especially with such a mainstream pundit calling him out regularly.
If Keys and other media outlets continue to put pressure on the ex-Blues man, surely he will not be around for much longer.
