Rangers predicted XI vs Brann – Djedi Gassama set for new role as Danny Rohl makes immediate changes

Rangers fans may be in for a surprise as Danny Rohl has been appointed as manager ahead of facing Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

Rohl has now taken over at Ibrox, with Andrew Cavenagh’s drawn-out search concluding on Monday evening.

The Light Blues face Brann on 23 October in Norway, and the German head coach will take charge of them for the first time in the European competition.

While Steven Smith was given an exemption by UEFA to lead the Glaswegian outfit in Europe as he lacks the necessary coaching badges, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss will now be in the dugout at Brann Stadion.

Djeidi Gassama second striker, Youssef Chermiti target man for Rangers under Danny Rohl

Apart from potentially making four changes to the Gers’ starting line-up, Rohl may opt for a different formation.

Rangers drew against Dundee United at Ibrox on 18 October, with the team’s setup in the 2-2 draw similar to what was seen under Russell Martin.

Rohl will bring an air of much-needed freshness to the Glaswegian outfit, changing between a back four and a back three during his time at Hillsborough.

In the 36-year-old head coach’s final win at the Owls, he played a 4-4-1-1 formation, which could be replicated at the Gers, and it could see Jayden Meghoma, Joe Rothwell, Thelo Aasgaard and Bojan Miovski being dropped against Brann.

The German head coach may opt for a much more physical back four, with Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, John Souttar and Derek Cornelius, with James Tavernier, Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande and Oliver Antman in a midfield four.

To find a solution for the Light Blues’ goalscoring issues, Djeidi Gassama could possibly be handed a free role as the second striker, with Youssef Chermiti the target man, unleashing his full potential.

Danny Rohl to replicate Sheffield Wednesday success at Ibrox

Rohl’s success at Sheffield Wednesday may bode well at Ibrox despite fans being uncertain about his appointment as the next permanent manager.

Rangers could see their team revolutionised under the German head coach after a poor start to the season, and Chermiti could potentially play a similar role to what Michael Smith played last season as the Owls’ number nine.

Full-back Yan Valery often played in a midfield four at Hillsborough last season, and Tavernier could possibly be used in the same way to get the most out of his attacking talents at Ibrox.

Lastly, Gassama will surely be delighted to reunite with Rohl, and in looking at his performances at the start of the current campaign, a free role just behind the striker will undoubtedly get the Gers’ creative juices flowing.
