Solskjaer was first mentioned as an option when Paul Scholes revealed he had been locked in talks with Rangers over the job in London.
The 52-year-old has been in charge at Manchester United, as well as his most recent spell in Turkey at Besiktas, where he was sacked.

Solskjaer slightly turned the tide at Old Trafford when in charge, but ultimately fell to the same pressure as those before and after him in red.
The Norwegian started like a house on fire, winning 14 of 19 interim matches before being given the main job at the Red Devils, taking charge 149 times after that.
Despite being sacked, he ended his tenure with a win percentage of 54.1 per cent, higher than Ruben Amorim, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

Rohl has only endured management at Sheffield Wednesday, and while a wild scenario unfolds there, Rangers is completely different.
Looking at Solskjaer’s time in Turkey with stats via Sofascore, though, similar issues appear.
Rangers appear to be looking at managers with dismal defensive records, with Muscat and Rohl exactly the same at shipping goals frequently.
Solskjaer ended his time at Besiktas with only a 17 per cent clean sheet record, but his attacking numbers were brilliant.
Russell Martin’s awful style created defensive woes and mistakes with it, but a more exciting brand going forward could eradicate those entirely.
Solskjaer had Besiktas creating nearly three big chances per game, as well as scoring nearly twice in that time, as well, something the Bears are clearly missing.
If he can unlock that at Ibrox, he could certainly turn the tide for Rangers.
