Rangers inform squad they’ve decided on new manager after Kevin Muscat fail

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe couldn’t have got it more wrong, as Kevin Muscat has also rejected Rangers.

The Gers have been looking for a new head coach since sacking Russell Martin around two weeks back, but have faced multiple setbacks in the process.

Steven Gerrard seemed like the first-choice option at Ibrox, but the Liverpool icon snubbed an opportunity to return to the Light Blues.

It looked like Muscat was the next best option for Cavenagh and Marathe, but the Shanghai Port manager had a change of heart after advanced talks with the Glaswegian outfit, who have since apparently taken strides to appoint their new head coach.

Rangers don’t reveal identity of new manager to squad to avoid leak

While on the outside, it feels like the managerial saga is dragging on, the first-team staff and players have been informed about the identity of the new head coach, according to Heart & Hand Podcast.

Their X account reported on 19 October that the Light Blues have already decided on who will take the reins in the G51 dugout, but haven’t revealed the identity yet to avoid a leak.

Danny Rohl is back in contention for the Ibrox vacancy, but it remains to be seen whether the former Sheffield Wednesday manager is the chosen one at the Glaswegian outfit.

The German head coach wouldn’t be a popular appointment among some of the Gers’ fans as they feel he’s similar to Martin.

Rohl is known for his modern-day, possession-based style of football, which didn’t translate well under the former Southampton boss.

The 36-year-old’s only experience as a first-team boss has come at the Owls, who finished 12th in the Championship last season, although that was an impressive feat considering their off-field struggles.

Steven Smith to be in charge vs Brann

Steven Smith has been granted an exemption by UEFA to take charge against Brann, as the Gers’ Under-19 head coach lacks the necessary coaching badges.

The interim boss may have thought he was on course for a perfect start in G51 after Thelo Aasgaard scored the opener for Rangers against Dundee United on 18 October.

While the Gers performed well in the opening 45 minutes, their second-half display was underwhelming, with Jim Goodwin’s team scoring two before James Tavernier secured a point late in the game.

Whoever the next permanent manager is at Ibrox, the American owners have certainly dented their credibility with the shabby nature of the process to identify the right person for the job.
