Rangers forward Rabbi Matondo reacts as tear-jerking retirement confirmed
Rabbi Matondo is still working towards reaching full fitness for Rangers this season.
Matondo has been sidelined for Rangers since the start of the season, which has spared him from Russell Martin’s chaotic tactics before he left Ibrox.
Since then Danny Rohl has been appointed by Rangers after Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat rejected the job.
Fans will be anticipating Matondo’s return to the pitch, but for the moment, he has reacted on social media to some unexpected news.

Rabbi Matondo reacts to Joe Morrell retirement
Matondo has been linked with an exit from Rangers after suffering a series of fitness related issues.
While he will likely be hoping to show his class under a new manager, Matondo’s wages are sky high at Ibrox which could tempt the club into cutting their losses.
- Matondo joined Rangers in 2022 from Schalke 04
- He was loaned to Hannover 96 in January for the remainder on the 2024/25 season
- Matondo has netted eight goals and has provided 11 assists in 67 appearances at Ibrox
The Welsh international took to Instagram on 20 October, where he liked an emotional post from former Cymru teammate Joe Morrell confirming that he has retired from football.
The news is surely a tear-jerking one as after suffering a series of injury setbacks, the 28-year-old finally announced his retirement from the game.
Matondo will now be focusing on finding his best form to help his team comeback from what has been a disappointing season thus far.
Does Rabbi Matondo still have a place at Rangers?
After being sidelined for so long, it is difficult to say whether Matondo can reignite his career at Ibrox.
When at his best, he offers a lot going forward thanks to his explosive pace and dribbling expertise.
There is an argument to be made that the Gers have missed his direct approach at times this season and his tendency to cut inside and strike the ball could improve their goalscoring threat.
Competition is rife with Mikey Moore and Djiedi Gassama as options, but with a new manager set to arrive imminently, there is no better time than the present for Matondo to prove himself at Rangers.
