Rangers fans simply won’t accept comical excuse behind Danny Rohl’s Ibrox rejection

Rangers chiefs have rightly come under fire for what has been a shockingly bad search for the club’s next manager.

Steven Gerrard turned the Rangers job down, as did Kevin Muscat, before next on the list Danny Rohl emerged as the new favourite.

Rohl had initially ruled himself out for the Rangers job last week, at which point Muscat looked certain to take charge.

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Rohl has now been confirmed as Rangers’ next boss, with confirmation arriving on Monday evening.

Danny Rohl initially turned down Rangers job for strange reason

Rohl was third choice on Rangers‘ list of managerial candidates two weeks ago, yet he is the man that has now been appointed.

As Martin O’Neil put it, Rangers are in a “ridiculous” situation in which a manager who ruled himself out of the job less than a week ago is now about to take charge.

The reason behind Rohl rejecting the job initially, as per Florian Plettenberg on X, is because there was not enough time between Wednesday and the visit of Dundee United on Saturday.

It must be said this is only what a Sky Sports reporter is sharing, but that may well be the line from the Gers and Rohl’s camp to save face.

It is a truly abysmal excuse and one that will simply not fool Rangers supporters. Rohl turned down the job because he assumed Muscat was about to sign on the dotted line.

What will be Rohl’s first game in charge of Rangers?

Given the way this managerial search has panned out so far, it would not be have been surprising to see this saga drag out for even longer.

Danny Rohl’s record as Sheffield Wednesday manager

Rangers are back in action on Thursday with a Europa League trip to Brann. You have to wonder what Rohl makes of the preparation time for that crucial game, for which he will be in charge.

Rohl’s first game at Ibrox comes against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership next weekend.

Thankfully this sorry mess is now over and Rohl can prepare for those two massive games this week.
