Martin O’Neil slams Rangers after ‘ridiculous’ Danny Rohl development at Ibrox
Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe haven’t helped themselves as Danny Rohl now looks set to be the new Rangers manager.
Initially, Steven Gerrard held talks to replace Russell Martin, but after conversations with the Gers’ hierarchy, the Liverpool icon ruled out his return to G51.
Talks with Kevin Muscat also broke down at Ibrox, leaving the Light Blues scratching their heads over their next permanent boss.
Now, it looks like Rohl is Cavenagh’s chosen one, but the entire process over the last two weeks has left a lot of questions about the American ownership.

Rangers to appoint Danny Rohl after he rejected them
It’s ridiculous to see Rohl back in the running to be the next Gers manager after rejecting them once, Martin O’Neil says.
The former Celtic head coach has slammed the Light Blues’ managerial saga, and he sees no way back in G51 from their current crisis.
Rohl ruled himself to fill the Ibrox vacancy while talks with Muscat were ongoing, and to now see him ready to succeed Martin is certainly strange.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 20 October, Jim White said, “If Rohl is back in, he’s back in after counting himself out.” To which O’Neil responded, “It’s so ridiculous. Rangers have been in decline now for quite some time and look as if they’ve no way of getting out of it.”
Rohl is already on the back foot at the Glaswegian outfit as the fans have been left frustrated with what’s happened under Martin and the subsequent delay in appointing a new head coach.
Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises had the international break to sort out the mess at the Gers, but they’ve failed to show competency at Govan.
Ibrox faithful have Russell Martin fear with Danny Rohl
Martin can arguably be seen as the worst manager at the Gers, lasting just 123 days after a win rate of 29 per cent.
The former Southampton boss got Rangers off to their worst start in the league since 1978, and left them in eighth after just one win in seven matches.
Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals conceded |
17 | 5 | 6 | 6 | 24 |
Rohl’s only experience as a first-team head coach came at Sheffield Wednesday, where he left in the summer after less than two years in charge.
At least Martin had managed in the Premier League with Southampton before coming to Ibrox, and supporters fear the German manager could potentially be in for a similar fate in G51.
