Ferguson has clear message for Danny Rohl after Rangers announcement
Rangers’ search for a new manager finally concluded on Monday evening with the appointment of Danny Rohl.
Rohl initially rejected the Rangers job last week when it looked as though Kevin Muscat was certain to be hired.
However, Muscat himself turned down the Rangers job, having also seen Steven Gerrard do likewise, so Andrew Cavenagh turned back to Rohl.
Rohl is expected to bring his own staff on board at Ibrox, with his first game in charge coming away at Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

Danny Rohl surely a better Rangers option than Russell Martin
The bar has been set incredibly low for Rangers‘ newest permanent manager given just how bad Russell Martin’s tenure went.
Martin bowed out as Rangers’ worst-ever manager statistically speaking, with his spell one that everyone will be eager to forget.
Like Martin, Rohl also managed in the English Championship. Unlike Martin, he has yet to taste football at a higher level as a manager.
And in the view of Rangers-mad pundit Derek Ferguson, it is imperative Rohl does what Martin did not by getting off to a fast start in order to get the fans’ backing.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson said: “Like his predecessor, Rohl’s record is truly underwhelming.
“The fans will give the backing early doors, but they need to see a clear pathway to winning football matches.”
Ferguson also took a swipe at Rangers figures Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, who have not covered themselves in glory of late.
“We do not trust them at all,” he added.
Rohl becomes Rangers’ fifth permanent manager in three years
Martin’s tenure lasted just 122 days. Prior to that Philippe Clement oversaw things for one year and 131 days, while Michael Beale had 307 days at the helm.
Manager | Start date | Finish date | Time in charge |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst | 18 November 2021 | 21 November 2022 | 1 year, 3 days |
Michael Beale | 28 November 2022 | 1 October 2023 | 1 year, 131 days |
Philippe Clement | 15 October 2023 | 23 February 2025 | 83 days |
Russell Martin | 5 June 2025 | 5 October 202 | 122 days |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst, meanwhile was in charge for one year and three days, with that spell concluding in November 2022.
Remarkably, that means Rangers are now onto their fifth manager in three years, and that’s not even including Steven Davis, Barry Ferguson and Steven Smith.
Every Rangers fan will be hoping Rohl lasts the duration of his two-and-a-half year deal, but on the basis of what we have seen at Ibrox in the past few years, do not bet on that.
