Danny Rohl’s new backroom staff detailed as Rangers announce new manager

Danny Rohl has been appointed as the new Rangers manager.

Rangers’ search for a new manager had descended into farce recently, but they finally have a new boss after several setbacks.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises group have acted quickly to secure a replacement for Russell Martin, who was sacked earlier this month.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss is expected to be in the dugout for the Europa League clash with Brann on Thursday, 23 October.

Who could Danny Rohl bring to Rangers with him?

Rohl has made a spectacular U-turn with the Rangers job, and now questions turn to who will be in his backroom team.

Former Gers star Andy Halliday mentioned Lee Wallace when talking about Rohl on the Open Goal podcast.

Speaking on 14 October, he said: “I’ve got a wee exclusive for you: Danny Rohl wants Lee Wallace for the coaching staff.”

Steven Davis is another name that could be in the frame, as the Glasgow Times reported on 15 October that the German wanted to bring him back to Ibrox, if he got the job.

Rohl needs to bring back ex-Rangers duo

Rohl has no association with the Gers or with Scottish football, so surrounding himself with people who do, makes sense for the 36-year-old to do that.

Wallace played for the Govan outfit from 2011 to 2019, winning the Scottish Third Division, the Scottish League One title, the Scottish Challenge Cup and the Scottish Championship.

Meanwhile, Davis first joined the Light Blues on loan in 2008 before making that move permanent and leaving in 2012.

He spent seven years with Southampton before returning to Auchenhowie, where he added another Scottish Premiership title, to the three that he won in his first stint.

Given Rohl’s lack of knowledge on the history and mentality at the club, appointing Wallace and Davis to his staff would be a great start, and give the supporters confidence that his reign can be successful.

Rohl needs a quick start to get the fans back on board after the dismal start to the campaign under Martin, and that should help him.
