Neil McCann blanks calls and texts from BBC Sportscene after Rangers manager latest – ‘Very rude’

Kevin Muscat appears to have most things in place to take over at Rangers.

Muscat looks set to take the Rangers job, but only once the Chinese Super League finishes on 22 November, with Shanghai Port closing in on the title again.

After Russell Martin was sacked, Steven Gerrard was moments away from the Ibrox job, only to back out at the final moment after talks in London.

With Muscat moving into pole position, the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh need a plan in place while they wait for the Australian to become fully available.

Step forward, Neil McCann.

Rangers put together new manager plan

It has been shared that McCann could oversee things at Rangers until Muscat arrives, before officially becoming his assistant at Auchenhowie.

Steven Thompson shares the rumours he has heard around Ibrox over the new managerial situation, as it prepares to enter its third week already.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on 18 October after Rangers’ 2-2 draw versus Dundee United, the host joked about McCann and his attempts to get hold of the 51-year-old over the news.

The rumour is that our pal, Neil McCann, might be going in to take charge of things until Muscat arrives,” he said.

“We can’t be clear on that because he won’t answer his phone; it’s very rude, Neil, not to return calls or messages.

“I think the problem for Rangers in there is the fact that teams don’t fear going to Ibrox right now.”

Who else could join Kevin Muscat at Rangers?

Ross Aloisi and Vincenzo Ierardo could move to Ibrox with Muscat, having tasted massive success alongside him at Shanghai Port.

The Australian duo were both headhunted by the former Rangers star for their current roles, so it would be no surprise to see them join Muscat in Govan.

Muscat is three wins away from a second consecutive Chinese Super League title, but if that is secured sooner, a move to Rangers may be completed quickly.

The Light Blues are in desperate need of help; that is very clear.

After yet another dreadful Ibrox draw, Rangers somehow sit sixth, only three points off the bottom and a whopping 13 off Hearts at the top.

Something needs to change quickly, and if Muscat makes them wait, McCann has to work some magic way before the Australian joins him.
