Kris Boyd hits back as Chris Sutton speaks out on Rangers manager developments at Ibrox

Rangers are still on the hunt for a new head coach after sacking Russell Martin.

Martin was sacked by Rangers after a terrible run of results and performances since taking over at Ibrox in the summer.

It had looked as if Steven Gerrard was going to be the man for Rangers before he surprisingly opted to turn down a Govan return.

Steven Smith took charge as Rangers drew 2-2 with Dundee United in yet another frustrating result in the Scottish Premiership.

Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton have continued to debate throughout this managerial saga, reaching yet another hot point as the manager search continues.

Chris Sutton questions the Rangers manager hunt

Kevin Muscat could soon take over at Rangers and bring a much-welcome end to yet another managerless period for the Gers.

Even with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises coming in, there has been little reason for positivity around the G51 club.

There is hope that this will change in the coming weeks and months, following pretty shameful attempts to hire a new head coach.

Muscat looks likely to come in, but not after the Light Blues showed interest in the likes of Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche and Danny Rohl.

It is the latter that has raised questions at Ibrox, with Sutton wondering why Rangers haven’t pushed to land the ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Speaking live via Sky Sports Football on 19 October, he said: “Should they have been stronger with Danny Rohl?

Just because the Rangers fans are making their feelings clear. Should they be listening to fans?

Boyd snapped back at his fellow pundit, saying, “Chris, I think it runs deeper than just a manager. Kevin Thelwell has come in. I’m yet to see him do anything positive with the football club.

Danny Rohl could have transformed Rangers

The former Bayern Munich coach has an excellent reputation and was once seen as one of the best, if not the best, managers in the English Championship.

Having taken over a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side, Rohl carried them up to a mid-table finish despite many behind-the-scenes problems.

Last season, the Hillsborough club finished 12th after being tasked with avoiding relegation the year before.

This goes to show the level the German can reach without support and a distinctly average squad of players.

With better backing at Ibrox and a number of quality names at this level, Rohl could have been the man to unleash Rangers’ true potential.
