Kevin Thelwell must face Rangers axe as Kevin Muscat collapse update emerges at Ibrox
Rangers would be wise to part ways with Kevin Thelwell.
Thelwell was appointed by Rangers in April ahead of Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises’ takeover at Ibrox.
The ex-Everton man replaced Ross Wilson after he departed for Nottingham Forest in what now looks to be an ill-fated move for all parties.
Patrick Stewart opted to bring in Thelwell, but both senior figures are coming under increased scrutiny in Govan.
Thelwell could be causing more problems than he’s worth right now and might soon find himself out the exit door after just months in the G51 role.

Kevin Thelwell blamed for Kevin Muscat collapse
Rangers looked likely to hire Kevin Muscat as their embarrassing hunt for a new head coach continued into yet another week.
Having been rejected by Steven Gerrard, many options have been assessed, but it appeared that the Australian was set to be the chosen option at Ibrox.
The Gers were seemingly prepared to wait for his campaign at Shanghai Port to finish before linking up with the Govan club in November.
That has now been thrown into jeopardy after talkSPORT reported on 19 October that a deal with Muscat is now stalling.
Alex Crook has detailed that contact between Muscat and Thelwell looks destined to put the brakes on the potential hire in G51.
It has been suggested that the former Everton chief’s influence also led Gerrard to rule out a return to the Scottish Premiership.
Thelwell has no where to hide with Rangers failures
The Light Blues were in desperate need of signings in the summer as the new owners looked to invest and improve their squad.
There is no doubt that Cavenagh and Co. provided that, but unfortunately, they allowed Thelwell to spend those funds.
The 51-year-old overspent on many players, and very few ever seem likely to reach the level the Gers expected.
Rangers summer signings:
- Max Aarons (loan)
- Joe Rothwell
- Emmanuel Fernandez
- Thelo Aasgaard
- Nasser Djiga (loan)
- Djeidi Gassama
- Mikey Moore (loan)
- Oliver Antman
- Jayden Meghoma (loan)
- Bojan Miovski
- Youssef Chermiti
- Derek Cornelius (loan)
Gassama looks to be a useful addition, but besides that, there is very little positivity to speak of for the fresh faces in Govan.
Thelwell is the man who has to be held accountable for this failure.
He is also seemingly responsible for the failure to hire a new head coach. For that, he should be let go and immediately replaced before the situation gets worse.
