Kevin Muscat ‘left in limbo’ as Rangers talks set for collapse after Ibrox source speaks out

Kevin Muscat’s move to take charge of Rangers could be about to fall through after a huge development at Ibrox.

The Gers have seen their managerial search take several twists and turns since Russell Martin was dismissed, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl heavily linked with the job at one stage.

Muscat’s appointment at Rangers had seemingly been all-but confirmed, with an agreement in place for him to move from Chinese side Shanghai Port.

The Australian’s arrival in Govan had felt like a matter of when, not if, but now there are doubts as to whether it could even take place at all.

Kevin Muscat negotations have hit a sticking point

Muscat’s move to Rangers had appeared to be just a case of finalising his compensation package for his current club, but he could now be set to stay in Shanghai after this development.

The 52-year-old has been “left in limbo” according to the Daily Record, with further talks with Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell producing a potential “stumbling block.”

A source at Ibrox has now revealed to the Record that there are growing concerns that a deal could now fall through, despite Muscat previously agreeing to join in principle, after discussions with Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.

Muscat’s switch to Ibrox is now understood to be on the brink of collapse, which would see him continue as the manager of Shangai Port, where he still has another year left on his current contract.

Rangers can’t miss out on Kevin Muscat

Rangers embarrassingly missed out on Gerrard’s appointment, and they simply cannot afford to suffer the same fate with Muscat.

The Gers have been searching for their new boss for two entire weeks now, and if the appointment of Muscat were to fall through, they would essentially be no further into the process than when they started.

With that in mind, the Cavenagh, Marathe and Co. simply have to resolve the talks with their current candidate and find a way of ironing out the issue that has arisen.

Rangers’ season has been filled with chaos from the very beginning, and they could now be about to face the most embarrassing moment of their campaign so far.
