Kevin Muscat collapse update emerges at Rangers as Chris Jack shares appointment timeline

Kevin Muscat had looked destined to become the next Rangers manager.

Muscat emerged as the top target for Rangers as the Ibrox club were seemingly willing to wait for his tenure at Shanghai Port to end.

The Australian emerged as an option for Andrew Kavenagh and Co. after Steven Gerrard turned down a Rangers return earlier in the month.

Danny Rohl has also been mentioned as a Rangers option, but links fell away as the Light Blues seemingly pushed ahead with the CSL head coach.

A deal for Muscat now looks to have stalled, with the chances of a managerial appointment in Govan now shared by Chris Jack.

Kevin Muscat deal off at Rangers

Kevin Thellwell looks to have ended Muscat’s links to Rangers despite him looking like a done deal earlier in the week.

The efforts to bring Steven Gerrard back to Ibrox were also scuppered by the ex-Everton chief, in a damming representation of his work with the Gers.

Jack has now confirmed on 19 October that Muscat won’t be joining the Light Blues as their new manager.

The journalist has suggested that talks did reach an advanced stage, but after discussions with Thelwell and Co., a move fell through.

This hasn’t stopped Rangers’ hopes of a quick head coach appointment, with Jack reporting that the G51 club still want to make an appointment in the coming days.

It is unclear how realistic that is, but that is the timeline that has now been set by the Light Blues’ hierarchy.

Muscat could have been ideal appointment for Rangers

The Gers have proven over the years how difficult it can be to appoint a head coach who can have a positive impact.

That wasn’t ever really seen with Philippe Clement, and it certainly wasn’t the case with Russell Martin this campaign.

Muscat would have come in and would have likely commanded the respect of the Ibrox club after playing for them back in 2002-03.

The Aussie is also a head coach in his own right and has certainly done well with Shanghai Port throughout his spell there.

The 52-year-old looks destined to win a WSL title this season, while Rangers will continue their manager search once again.
