Andrew Cavenagh wants new Rangers manager before Thursday as sensational twist emerges

Rangers’ search for a new manager has descended into farce in recent days.

Steven Gerrard was the favourite for the Rangers vacancy, but he withdrew his name from contention after talks with the Govan outfit.

Then, Former Rangers star Kevin Muscat seemed set to take over, but he pulled out on Sunday after agreeing a deal in principle.

It leaves the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh in a difficult situation, as supporters at Ibrox are beginning to question their ability to lead the club.

Rangers want Danny Rohl again after Kevin Muscat talks break down

Danny Rohl had initially turned down the Rangers role, but it appears that he has had second thoughts on the idea.

A report from the Scottish Sun on 19 October claimed that the Gers have “sensationally” reignited talks with Rohl after the collapse of the Muscat deal.

It states that Gers chairman Cavenagh wants to make an appointment for the Europa League clash with Brann on Thursday, 23 October.

Why would Rohl be a good fit for Rangers?

For starters, Rohl is used to working under challenging circumstances; he worked at Sheffield Wednesday in the tumultuous Dephon Chansiri era.

He has also worked in the biggest environments, such as the German national team and Bayern Munich, where he held assistant manager roles.

He has been with elite teams, with major pressure on their shoulders to win, so surely he knows what it takes to do the same with the Light Blues.

Rohl’s career so far at the senior level.

In terms of his tactical approach, he is known to be adaptable, shifting between 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-2-1, depending on the opposition as opposed to Martin, who was wedded to his system.

He is known for a preference for wingers, which could benefit current Gers star Djiedi Gassama, who worked under Rohl at Hillsborough.

One thing is for sure, the Bears need to appoint somebody soon to quell the discontent from the fanbase, but if they get the wrong man again, it could end their season and only make that anger even worse.

Rohl has plenty of experience in the top levels of the game, and hopefully, that work has given him the tools he needs to succeed in Govan, if he is the man who finally steps through the doors at Auchenhowie.
