VAR should have intervened as Thelo Aasgaard involved in ‘serious’ Rangers incident vs Dundee Utd

Thelo Aasgaard was let down by his teammates as Rangers dropped more points in the William Hill Premiership against Dundee United.

Jim Goodwin’s team travelled to Ibrox on 18 October, coming back from behind to secure a point in G51.

Aasgaard gave Steven Smith’s team the lead in the 25th minute, but Kristijan Trapanovski and Craig Sibbald scored equally brilliant strikes to stun the hosts.

James Tavernier managed to save the Glaswegian outfit from further blushes with his goal in the 87th minute, but the game could’ve been worse for them.

Thelo Aasgaard lucky after foul on Vicko Sevelj in Rangers vs Dundee United

Aasgaard was penalised in the 55th minute against Dundee United for his foul on Vicko Sevelj.

While Don Robertson may not have thought much of the 23-year-old’s action at Ibrox, on closer inspection, it arguably looked worse as the Tangerines’ midfielder was pushed in the face.

Former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett believes VAR should have intervened as it constituted a Serious Foul Play offence.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “This is a Serious Foul Play offence, the player deliberately using his arm/elbow as a weapon. Whilst these are not always easy to detect by the man in the middle, VAR should have detected and brought the incident to the attention of the referee and a pitchside review.”

The Ibrox faithful can’t wait for Kevin Muscat to arrive, as the Light Blues risk writing off their season if there are any more delays with the managerial appointment.

Jack Butland back to his best at Ibrox

Jack Butland was linked with an exit from Ibrox in the summer after losing his place in the starting lineup towards the end of last season.

Rangers fans wouldn’t have minded seeing the English goalkeeper leave during the squad rebuild in the summer, but they’ll now be glad he didn’t.

While Liam Kelly is a decent shot-stopper, Butland’s performance against Dundee United highlights what he brings to the Gers.

Without the 32-year-old in between the sticks, Goodwin’s team would’ve surely scored more goals and left the Glaswegian outfit humiliated.
